Today for the first time I commuted in the snow from Kista
to Älvsjö on my 3-wheel recumbent. Nasty! Took 1:08 moving
time in a 18km stretch. Need some advice.
Biked most of the way on the bike lane but it is ruff at
times with areas that are not plowed and fluffy snow that
makes progress difficult. In the city snow can be plowed
onto the bike lane.
I feel like I am climbing the snow at times. I have winter
tires so there isn't a problem of traction. The back tire is
a 26" Nokian Extreme. When I tried biking on the regular
road I can get up speed without the drag factor of the
snow.
While in the non-snow days one can bike on the side of the
road with few complaints but in the winter you will block
the road since you need to bike on the actual car tracks. If
there is snow between the lanes nobody can pass. I am
seriously concerned with getting the pressure from drivers.
Nobody is going to understand the reason for biking in the
middle of the road is due to difficult to ride on the bike
lane.
Feeling discouraged... Anybody else that is brave (crazy)
enough to trike in the snow?
On a positive note I am pleased with the safety one feels
with the 3 wheels. Maybe it was just my very low speed.
