Jag tycker att det låter som en rätt så bra idé, man borde kunna få rätt bra ruttbeskrivningar med kartbild och sånt, men är lite tveko till hur pass exakt och bra det verkligen blir. Särskilt med realtids-hastighet. Den enkla hastighetsmätar-appen, som jag har testat i bilen, var rätt seg på att uppdatera hastigheten. Såpass seg att det var svårt att veta om den egentligen visade rätt...

Har också iPhone, men inte heller testat. Försöker använda kartorna som just kartor när jag kör med både cykel och bil. För cykel får man testa att växla mellan bil och fotgängare, blir lite mitt emellan. Jag skulle gärna vilja ha tips på eventuella iPhone-hållare för vanligt styre och dom käcka applikationerna som klarar cykeldatorfunktionerna.

Jag har en Garmin 60CS som cykeldator, körde ett tag med en vanlig cykeldator också men den ligger på hyllan nu. Tycker det fungera bra med GPS och ger korrekt hastighet hela tiden, vill man sen sitta vid datorn och kolla rutten så finns möjligheten även om jag sällan gör det. Var mest för att jag redan hade den som jag satte den på liggcyklen, känns för det mesta som lite overkill men den ger fart, sträcka och medelhastighet och det det som används mest.

In dedikerad GPS fungerar utmärkt som cykeldator - Garmin, t.ex. säljer flera modeller som är specialanpassade. Man kan till dessa köpa tillbehör som kadenssensor och hjärtmonitor, för att göra dem till kompletta träningsdatorer. En dedikerad GPS är tillräckligt snabb, men det tar ett par sekunder innan den upptäcker (visar) förändrad hastighet.
Emellertid är en iPhone inte en dedikerad GPS. Problemet är batterilivslängd - telefonen ska ju vara telefon och ha lång standby- tid. Därför har Apple prioriterad batterilivslängd, och det kan ha inverkan på hur ofta GSP:en uppdaterar och räknar om. Telefonen går antagligen i sparläge av sig själv, jag känner inte till detaljerna för detta.

GPS funktionen måste vara bra för att ett sånt program ska fungera så vitt jag kan förstå.
HTC släpper sin telefon Magichttp://www.htc.com/www/product/magic/overview.htmltill sommaren som kommer vara den första Android kompatibla telefonen på svenska marknaden.
Kan man verkligen göra egna program till iPhone ifall man bara har en Mac? Jag trodde alla applikationer måste gå via AppStore och godkännas innan de kan installeras.. om man inte jailbreakat vill säga ;) Jag vill gärna veta mer här - skulle kunna få mig att överväga en iPhone. Om det går att skriva egna applikationer på det sättet borde det ju gå bra att porta alla möjliga andra program skrivna i Java också, inklusive Softracer :)

Har för mig det var på intersport jag såg den säljas, men finns inte med i deras websortiment.
Själv tänkte jag skaffa en HTC Magic med Softracer och eventuellt en watatite påse, samt skriva ut en hållare med min repraphttp://www.reprap.org/bin/view/Main/WebHomenär den blir klar. Kan nog dröja ett tag - har hållt på att bygga sen i september och fortfarande en del mekanik kvar och sen är det elektroniken..

För att förvirra ännu mer, kör jag(ibland) med Nokia sportstracker. Jag har ändå dator på cykeln men sportstracker samlar träningsdata och rutter på nätet, laddar upp direkt från mobilen.Det kan till och med göra det i realtid så man kan följa polarens framfart live. Självklart onödigt men ganska kul

Har inte lagt några pengar än, men det finns program som använder enbart GPS också, eller som talar om tydligt när dom inte kan göra det. Jag håller nu på och testar:

TrackThing (spårar när du är ute och rör dig, typ ungefär som en lättare och mindre mångkunnig version av Motion X, även här med karta. Verkar inriktad på att mäta starttid, mellantid och sluttid och kan visa lite grafer och så. Den skulle säkert kunna användas som typ cykeldator)
Compass (helt enkelt en kompass som hämtar GPS-data för att visa norr/söder)
SpeedBxLite (hastighetsmätare. Finns flera andra appar från andra tillverkare)
ICGT Geocaching Toolkit (mest för geocachare antar jag. Man kan göra s.k. waypoint-uträkningar på en massa olika sätt, tydligen användbart för geocachare )som gör multicacher.)
Beacon (hitta-hem-app. Släpp en vårdkase där du står - till exempel där du har parkerat din cykel - och när du sen ska hitta tillbaka till det stället igen så kör du igång programmet, så pekar den dit du ska)
SignalFire (programmets enda egenskap verkar vara att skicka din position till nån. Via email eller SMS eller så. Kan även skicka positionen till webbplatsen BrightKite.com. Säkert användbart, men jag vet inget om det än)

På displayen finns då det vanliga: medel- max- och aktuell hastighet. Även tillryggalagd sträcka, tid sedan starten och odometer. När man sen trycker på Stopp så kan man ladda upp sin "tripp" till everytrail.com, så kan man dela med sig av sin cykeltur till andra, kommentera den och sånt.)
Sen finns det en köpe-app som heter B.cycle också. Den har jag inte testat. Allt här ovanför är gratisgrejer, iofs med möjlighet att köpa "pro"-varianter av några av dem, men TheBike är helt gratis.

Förlåt, B.icycle var det som köpe-appen hette. Den ser fin ut, men jag vill veta att den har svenska kartor innan jag går åstad och handlar.
Peter, och andra iPhone-ägare, hur är det med iPhone-skydd? Finns det något som är såpass bra att man skulle kunna sätta upp iPhonen på cykeln i nån hållare och inte oroa sig för att det regnar in eller den går sönder om den trillar av? Skulle ju vara smutt om man kunde montera på den som man monterar en cykeldator, i nån käck hållare - men man vill ju inte ha den genomregnad, liksom.
watatite har jag kollat på (tillverkas av haglöfs) verkar vara bra skydd mot vatten och fukt, men knappast mot stötar. Hållar före iPhone i en watatite lär knappast finnas, men kan tillverkas när vi byggt klart vår reprap vilket borde bli någon gång under hösten.
För tillverkningen krävs exakta CAD-ritningar, så kan jag tillverka delarna och det kommer antagligen inte bli särskilt dyrt.
Ett alternativ till watatite påsen är att göra hållaren heltäckande bortsett från skärmen med silikon i alla fogar och silikonkant som ligger dikt an mot skärmen - lite osäker på om detta påverkar själva interfacet med ett konstant tryck runt hela kanten av skärmen... Hursomhelst bara en idé, helt utan garantier ;)

Peter, och andra iPhone-ägare, hur är det med iPhone-skydd? Finns det något som är såpass bra att man skulle kunna sätta upp iPhonen på cykeln i nån hållare och inte oroa sig för att det regnar in eller den går sönder om den trillar av? Skulle ju vara smutt om man kunde montera på den som man monterar en cykeldator, i nån käck hållare - men man vill ju inte ha den genomregnad, liksom.
Googlar man på "iphone bike mount" hittar man en mängd fabrikat av hållare.
Googlar man på "iphone waterproof case" hittar man vattentäta fordral.
Sedan är det bara att försöka kombinera...
Men, som sagt, dedikerade GPS:er är från början vattentäta, och till dem finns det styrfästen som extrautrustning.

Mina 2 ören.... Jag köpte en garmin legend hcx för några dagar sedan tillsammans med friluftskartan för svealand.
För mig var det självklart med en dedikerad GPS av följande skäl. - Vattentät, utan extrapåsar eller skal, som kan läcka in. - Bra batteritid dvs 15-20 timmar - vanliga AA baterier så att man inte blir ståendes utan. dessutom är de billigare än specialare. - Bra kartor - Cykelfäste - Bra GPS mottagare som funkar, inte något billigt skit de har lött in i telefonen.
Anledningen till att jag valde denna framför Colorado eller Oregon var bateritid och att skärmen är ljusstarkare, om än något mindre.

Vilket har fått mig att tänka ungefär "eehhhh.... man använder inte pekpenna till iPhone." Och även om det går så skulle jag näppeligen göra det på cykeln...
Sen har jag sett ett antal allmänna vattentäta rätt stora telefonskydd, men det enda vattentäta jag sett som är direkt gjort för iPhone är Otterbox Armor - och det passar inte 3G-modellen tyvärr, och är bortplockat från deras sortiment.
Just nu lutar det åt Otterbox Defender, som är stötsäker och vattenavstötande. Så får man stoppa den i fickan om det börjar regna för mycket. Jo, RAM gör verkligen seriösa grejor. De har ett helt system med komponenter, där man kan pussla ihop fästen till de flesta behov. Själv köpte jag komponenter till ett fäste för min Garmin eTrex Vista, så att jag kan ha den på trajken. Mycket stadigt, ganska tungt, och rätt dyrt...
