Greetings Everyone, I appologize for my inability to write in Swedish but wanted to personally follow-up about the broken fork on my VK2. Krister sent me an email via YouTube and mentioned that he also rides a VK2 and posts to this forum. Kamil replaced my fork through BentUpCyles, the US dealer for Velokraft. I have done two 30-mile rides with the replacement fork and the bike rides like new. I trust the bike and have no reservations about riding it as hard as I like. My episode with the fork breaking was a lesson in the importance of periodic inspections of critical parts. I believe that bikes like this should be treated like airplanes and checked over carefully on a regular basis. A year before my fork failed, my boom developed a crack where it gets clamped. It had been made too thin and came from a bad batch of 6 booms. As far as I know, all of these were replaced free of charge. In that case I had noticed that my boom was not vertical and that I was able to twist it with my hands. When I pulled it off I could see the crack.
In both cases, I sent detailed photographs to Kamil and he responded with concern and interest. I have not gotten his final analysis of why my fork broke off. When I do I will pass the information along through Krister. In the meantine I will continue to ride my VK2 as hard as I like. It is a great bike and lot of fun to ride. In the future however, I will be more vigilent about inspections.
Cheers, Jonathan
