I Googles opensource smartphone operativsystem Android finns en applikation som heter Softracerhttp://www.android-community.org/content/show.php/Softrace?content=89578som vunnit pris som en av de bästa applikationerna till Android. GPS funktionen måste vara bra för att ett sånt program ska fungera så vitt jag kan förstå.
HTC släpper sin telefon Magichttp://www.htc.com/www/product/magic/overview.htmltill sommaren som kommer vara den första Android kompatibla telefonen på svenska marknaden.
Kan man verkligen göra egna program till iPhone ifall man bara har en Mac? Jag trodde alla applikationer måste gå via AppStore och godkännas innan de kan installeras.. om man inte jailbreakat vill säga ;) Jag vill gärna veta mer här - skulle kunna få mig att överväga en iPhone. Om det går att skriva egna applikationer på det sättet borde det ju gå bra att porta alla möjliga andra program skrivna i Java också, inklusive Softracer :)

Har för mig det var på intersport jag såg den säljas, men finns inte med i deras websortiment.
Själv tänkte jag skaffa en HTC Magic med Softracer och eventuellt en watatite påse, samt skriva ut en hållare med min repraphttp://www.reprap.org/bin/view/Main/WebHomenär den blir klar. Kan nog dröja ett tag - har hållt på att bygga sen i september och fortfarande en del mekanik kvar och sen är det elektroniken..

In dedikerad GPS fungerar utmärkt som cykeldator - Garmin, t.ex. säljer flera modeller som är specialanpassade. Man kan till dessa köpa tillbehör som kadenssensor och hjärtmonitor, för att göra dem till kompletta träningsdatorer. En dedikerad GPS är tillräckligt snabb, men det tar ett par sekunder innan den upptäcker (visar) förändrad hastighet.
Emellertid är en iPhone inte en dedikerad GPS. Problemet är batterilivslängd - telefonen ska ju vara telefon och ha lång standby- tid. Därför har Apple prioriterad batterilivslängd, och det kan ha inverkan på hur ofta GSP:en uppdaterar och räknar om. Telefonen går antagligen i sparläge av sig själv, jag känner inte till detaljerna för detta.
iPhone har inbyggd GPSmottagare, men är inte en fullfjädrad GPS utan att man installerar extraprogram. Sådana kan laddas ner via iTunes AppStore, och är skrivna av mer eller mindra professionella programmerare. Hur väl de är skrivna kan säkert ha betydelse för hur väl de fungerar för en viss applikation, t.ex. att tjänstöra som cykeldator. Har du en Apple-dator också, så kan du ladda ner allt du behöver för att själv utveckla program till din iPhone, och då kan du kanske fixa till en optimerad applikation.
Själv skulle jag rekommendera att skaffa en dedikerad GPS för att använda mera seriöst. Alternativt att köra med en vanlig, enkel cykeldator för momentandata, och iPhone för turstatistik.
En fördel med dedikerade ute-GPS:er, är att de tål att vara utomhus. En dags ösregn bekommer dem mindre än det gör deras ägare. En iPhone måste packas ner i fuktigt väder...
Jag har en Garmin eTrex Vista HCx (http://tinyurl.com/yshbc4). Denna har kartfunktion, och är avsedd för friluftsliv i skog och mark. Jag har valt den framför de dedikerade cykelmodellerna för att den drivs med vanliga AA-batterier, och har längst batterilivslängd av alla Garmins modeller. Detta är av intresse för för mig som vill köra långtur - jag vill inte vara hänvisad till att ha tillgång till eluttag varje natt för laddning (därför batterier), och jag vill slippa byta batterier för ofta.
Garmin Colorado 300 är en kartdator (för skogsluffning) som man kan ansluta kandessensor och hjärtmonitor till. Jag valde bort den för dess sämre batterilivslängd, men den har ett överlägset användargränssnitt.
Gramin har flera dedikerade cykel-GPS:er (http://tinyurl.com/5nz7tm). Toppmodellen Edge 705 har kartfunktion, plats för flashminne (att ha kartorna i), kan anslutas till hjärtmonitor och kadensssensor, m.m. Man får med programvara för att följa upp sin träning.
