True, it does need to be straight just under the seat, for a bit. I don't know how many that ask for this - it seems to be somewhat popular right now with both separables and foldables, but maybe it is just a temporary thing... or maybe not :) Anyway, very smart idea with combining separability with length adjustment, and getting rid of boom flex at the same time.
