I think Krister was joking about the speed limits. Of course there are none except those that are for cars and I need a very steep hill to violate any of them!
As for speeds:
1. When going on the upright bike I never went faster than 26 km/h comfortably on my own when training, but I averaged 31 km/h on the bike during VR 1997. What I'm trying to say is that groups are everything. You can ride for hours at 35 km/h in the middle of a large group hardly without working at all - seriously! Remember that wind resistance is about 90% of all resistance at that speed. This is true for upright bikes, for recumbents I honestly don't know. I remember how sorry I felt for all the (often older) people struggling alone at 20 km/h when we whizzed past at 35 km/h without working hard at all.
2. 30-35 km/h isn't very fast if we ride together, if we don't it's quite fast, I agree.
3. I'm not sure at all that I will manage this kind of speed or get a good time, it's just my ambition. If I feel that it won't work I will move to plan B = relax, enjoy, survive.

Good luck Dick, its nice to listen to your ambitions to start with 30-35 km/h in order to increase, I suppose, later on. However, remember that there are speed limits on all public roads in Sweden. Rounding Vättern is a pleasure and all pleasures enhance if consumed leisurely. So, I'll start in a recumbent laid-back way in order to, if neccessary, slow down later on.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know there are no speed-limits for cyclists in Sweden as long as you do not endanger other traffic. There is no obligation to have a speedometer attached to your bike.
