Good luck Dick, its nice to listen to your ambitions to start with 30-35 km/h in order to increase, I suppose, later on. However, remember that there are speed limits on all public roads in Sweden. Rounding Vättern is a pleasure and all pleasures enhance if consumed leisurely. So, I'll start in a recumbent laid-back way in order to, if neccessary, slow down later on.

I won't kill you. Possibly you will kill yourselfs. Seriously I don't expect to match my upright time from 1997. Not because the recumbent is slower or because I'm less trained (which I propably is) but because starting last of all is a great handicap. We will only catch riders slower than ourselfs and they are of no help. Our only chance of getting a fast and comfortable ride is to skip the first (two?) stops and hope to pass some fast riders who took long breaks. Riding on your own the whole way would be a major pain (even if it's not in the butt). Finding nice paced groups is the key to happiness during VR (in my limited experience). Hopefully the HPV group can stick together at a nice pace of say 30-35 km/h in the beginning, that would help us a lot during the rest of the race. 30-35 km/h may sound fast, but isn't really if we ride as a pace line. Slower riders can do short pulls at the front, faster riders long pulls. Since I haven't ried my new bike yet I have no idea how comfortable or fast I will be.

Dick Oh my God, 10:47, are you going to kill us? Krister

I'm in reasonably good shape from riding upright bikes, even if I don't do very long rides often (I don't have the time). The recumbent lacking some parts in my garage is my second one. I rode my Dalli for three seasons before i got the ZOX that I haven't tried yet. And I expect to get enough recumbent time before VR. I have 10:47 to beat...

About training:
I do about 10-30 km/day year round, so i should be in good enough condition already. I'll try to do a few 100-150 km trips to make sure everything is ok. Longer trips might not be a good idea, because they might cause damage. I'll try to take it easy during last weeks before VR, to make sure my knees are in as good shape as possible.
Dick:
Starting recumbent training so late sounds like you might get some kind of pain at least during VR. But if you are a fast upright bike rider already, maybe it will be easier to adapt. In the first few months with a recumbent my feet felt weak, because somehow the required muscle balance is different in a recumbent.
