I did, and it now runs at about the same speed as with the old code.
Actually, I don't think this exercise has introduced any interesting changes to the source code, it has just clarified that the current code is now a copy of the LGPL:ed code in libgcrypt (LGPL:ed) + some changes written by you and me. Anybody interested can try to diff the revisions before and after these sets of changes.
