I'm not sure about this one. My Gan has a different background, but I
wouldn't impose that on a novelisation of a series episode. I too would like
to do one some time when I'm not too busy, but I won't add anything from my
universe, IOW tell one of my own stories.
I also noticed that Jill was very even-handed in her treatment of all the
crew (indeed, she seems to like them all) and it would be nice if it stayed
that way. I'm sure David wouldn't do this, but it would be a pity if anyone
else doing a novelisation showed their prejudices for or against a
character.
Just as an example from the archives (which Mel pointed me to this week),
what if someone who thought Gan was a psychopathic woman-hating murderer
showed him as such, therefore making it look like canon? Now, I'd be happy
to read that in a story as an interesting idea, but not in a novelisation of
the series.
Maybe people could suggest some rules for consistency, (e.g. stick to canon)
but too many restrictions would also take the fun out of it.
