About the most strenuous thing we do these days is try to look up the occasional friend from back before that little ruckus out by the galactic edge - Star One, if you rember. Avon in particular is always willing to look up an old chum. When we decided to go to Obsidian, I can truthfully say he had a little list of old acquaintances who had it listed as their last known address. That Avon, no matter where we go, it seems like there's always a good chance he'll run into some old friend. You'd almost think that was his plan. What a guy! Obsidian has a lovely climate, quite warm, and the people are quite pleasant in their way. Not that it's touristy. No, this is one place that will never sell out its natural charm to try and attract hordes of sightseers. I know, in some quarters, they have a reputation as unfriendly, but it just isn't so. In fact, no sooner had we got there, than one of Dayna's old friends had invited a few of Avon's old pals over for a little get together (I never thought I'd meet anyone who was Avon's equal for social skills, but this fellow, the local ruler's son, was one of the closest I've met. What a guy!). This was really half the fun of our trip. This little get together was supposed to be a big surprise for Avon - and it was, although Cally tried to drop him a few hints once she got wind of it. I have to admit, it did start to get a little out of hand at this point. If it wasn't for Orac (another of Avon's pals), I don't know what would have happened. I think some people had been hitting the sauce a little too hard, if you know what I mean (don't worry, Mum, I never touch the stuff). Orac, however, got them involved in a sort of guessing game that kept them distracted (they lost, by the way). Meanwhile, the rest of us were having a thrilling game of hunt the bracelet. I know it sounds a little dull, but it's one of our favorites. I don't think a party goes by without a few rounds of it. However, you may be thinking this doesn't quite fit with that staid, proper image Obsidians have. I have to admit, I did think the local ruler hurried us out a _little_ quickly once he saw how wild things were getting (the bracelet game came to an immediate halt). I also think he was a bit put out with his son. Still, they set off a beautiful fireworks display when we left. Cally in particular found it quite heartwarming. As for Avon, he was about like he always is after one of these wild parties - a little damaged but nothing he'll think about in the morning. Trust me, he'll be ready to go right back and do the same thing tomorrow. What a guy! Your son, Resty P.S. If you happen to hear from Avon's old pal, Roj Blake, please, let us know _right away_.
