AFTERNOON ALL. THIS IS A MESSAGE FROM JENNY. Hello all. Jenny is back to face the rather predictable SLASHER counterattack. As I have said before the Slashers are for the most part highly intelligent. And like any wolf they are adaptable. ST:NG's Borg are wolves. Remember when they get shot? At first a few go down, but then they adapt to a new frequency, and they can resist again. That's what's happening here today. There are over twenty emails in my box this morning, and they are all from SLASHERS. A lot of them I have tagged, but there will be a few new ones uncloaking for the first time. There'll be one or two surprises in who they are, but subtle clues will have been given before. Also you'll notice that they are starting to imitate my style. This means 1/ Some of them have always understood close text analysis 2/ Some of them have learned from observing me how to do close text analysis. This however will only go on for a short while. Once they have secured the ground again, the IMO's and "leather trousers" will start to appear. Slashers can be broken down into two categories. These are: THE PROGRAMMERS: These come in two forms. 1/ THE CONSCIOUS PROGRAMMER. These people are highly intelligent and know what they are doing. 2/ THE UNCONSCIOUS PROGRAMMER: these people will be of varying intelligence and will be working on a subconscious level. Then we have the: PROGRAMMED: these are the people who have succumbed to the PROGRAMMERS, some willingly, some unwillingly. In the end the PROGRAMMED will become PROGRAMMERS themselves. And so the cycle will continue. The more SLASHERS there are the stronger the social conditioning. This is to suggest to you that what Nina is saying to you is logical. In a week or so Nina will be turning logic on its head, but you won't even notice. I think Avon was too far gone by this stage. He's lost the plot, and therefore I don't think it would affect him that much. If I see something on that list that I don't want to read, I don't read it. Apart from a few misdirected email's that weren't meant for the list, I don't recall having come across any posts that attacked individuals viewpoints the way I've seen them attacked here - such behaviour is not tolerated by the list's administrator. What I have enjoyed on that list is reading the many different opinions of people on several aspects of B7 that I might not otherwise have had an opportunity to listen to or discuss (I am mostly an active lurker). I suggest that you try being a member of that list before you knock it. There are several issues that I agree with you and Fiona/Shane/Whoever on, most of which I have debated offlist at some time or another with several of my B7 friends (and that includes my B7 friends who are "slashers") - nobody could accuse me of being less than seriously opinionated on some of these topics! But our debating remains reasonably civilised because we respect the fact that we are all B7 fans. Despite broadly agreeing with your views on some of the issues you have raised, I do not condone some of the tactics you/Fiona/Shane/Whoever have used in raising these issues and then responding to the view of others on this list without allowing for any proper debate of these important issues. Neither can I condone in any way the actions you/Fiona/Shane/Whoever have taken or incited others to take against Annie's website. It is wrong. Please don't assume that you speak for all non slash fans, Jenny - you don't speak for me. This is an interesting aspect of Vila and far more like your average person. Most people's reactions to some of the situations they got themselves in would have been like Vila's reaction, that is not going out of their way to put themselves in unnecessary danger. This isn't cowardice, it is just commonsense. It is only when the reason to put oneself in danger is so compelling or the alternative of not doing so potentially worse, that most people would do so. That is why in times of war, even with conscription, so much time and effort are placed on propaganda to convince the population that the cause is worth fighting for and/or pushing the shame element for those that don't sign up. Otherwise, no-one in their right mind would engage in trench warfare. The alternative tactic used in Norse mythology and others was that you didn't get a good afterlife unless you died in battle. Sally said: "an interesting aspect of his saving Tarrant in Rescue is that there is no one there to *tell him* him do it, in the heat of the moment he just does" Again a trait witnessed often in people. On the spur of the moment, with no time to think, they will put themselves at risk to help others. Remember the bravery of the guy on the Herald of Free Enterprise (a ferry that sank about 15 years ago) who turned himself into a human bridge for people to walk across? This type of behaviour is what i believe makes Vila so appealing. There are so many takes on his character, mental stability and so on, that can come out of canon. Most interpretations can be backed up by what we see, which gives plenty of room for almost any fanfic interpretation.
