Horizon and Redemption

As someone who has always been hesitant to get involved in discussions, I would just like to comment that if I had joined the lyst in the last couple of weeks I would have immediately fled in terror! The worry that remarks might result in a personal attack does not encourage new members to participate. I attended Redemption, which was my first convention, and although I recognised some of the badge names as members of this lyst I was too shy to come and introduce myself! I did talk briefly to Judith Proctor however, who I found to be friendly and helpful. I hope to go to the next Redemption - by which time, I may have been brave enough to share my opinions with you all! Hev

But my all time favourite chocolate thingy is Cadbury's Mad About Chocolate eggs - like a Creme Egg but with gooey chocolate stuff in the middle ... not quite so sickly but much more addictive - you can eat far more of them before you feel sick. Trouble is, the only place I can find them now is Esso petrol stations - Sainsburys etc have stopped stocking them as they aren't populare enough. Why is it that anything that is any good, like Blake's 7, gets stopped? Debbie

The Green Bulb at the rear reminds one of switching in electricity. Electricity requires something on front as well as behind; if there is no circuit, there is no propagation of electrons (assuming electricity is merely the movement of electrons). Time travels in two streams: One moves from the past through the present and into the future; the other moves from the future through the present and into the past. The two streams of time are separate but when the negative stream is twanged, a connection between the two streams becomes possible. It becomes feasible for the two streams to join and produce a circuit. In that event, a space-craft that distorted time would resemble a switch. In the same way that electricity requires a switch and circuit, so the cosmos requires a Time-Distort mechanism and the streams of time (and space). The cosmos requires time-distorting craft is what I am conjecturing. Debbie (on ships recharging themselves) We do not hear about this with the Federation ships. I presume they do not use some type of petrol, as they would keep running out in the middle of a battle. You can just imagine it - all pursuit ships stranded somewhere and Travis having to walk back with an empty can. So they must also have either had some sort of recharge facility, or else refueling tankers every so often. David In series one and two, where the Federation was strong, refuelling was not an issue from Volcano Servalan: This is Servalan calling Federation battle fleet commander. ... The Federation has, within the second series, made some progress from ordinary hyper-space plasma thrust (but is not necessarily inter-Galactic). Debbie It can't have been some sort of drawing energy directly from vacuum as that would imply limitless energy, but you never hear of any of the ships either refuelling or doing anything similar. The Liberator could recharge itself quite quickly. David Perhaps plasma was a combination of hydrogen and mono-pasium (pasium, plasium, plasma ?). Monopasium came from only one source (after Horizon) but hydrogen is given freely by the cosmos. Redemption 03 Formal Announcement

Redemption 03 will be held from the 21st to the 23rd of February 2003 at the Ashford International Hotel, Ashford, Kent, UK. It will be billed as: The 25th Anniversary Blake's 7 Convention and The 10th Anniversary Babylon 5 Convention This will be a fan run event with all profits to charity. It will concentrate on fannish activities that let people join in rather than just sit in audience and listen. As at the two previous Redemptions, games will play a major part with role playing games and board games featuring alongside quizzes and competitions. Other events will include workshops, panels, debates, masquerade, drinking and so on. The first guest to be announced is Blake's 7 script editor Chris Boucher, subject to work committments. Other guests will be announced later. Hotel rates are 40 pound sharing, 57 pound single, including breakfast. Convention rates: Full adult weekend 50 pound, or 45 pound before September 2002 and 40 pound before the end of March 2001. Weekend on the door will be 55 pound. Adult one day in advance 30 pound and on the door 35 pound Child (under 14) 15 pound for the weekend and 10 pound for a day. Under 3s are fee Apocryphal memberships (for teddy bears etc) are one pound if accompanied by a paying human being. Supporting membership is 15 pound and this can be updated to a full membership at any time at the rate at that time. People like defined spaces and boundaries. Virtual reality makes anything possible, but where anything is truely possible people become uncomfortable. Is anything what it seems to be? Can you expect the laws of physics to stay in effect? How many writers want to stretch the borders that far? How many readers are willing to give themselves over to a story where a scene between Avon and Blake could end up with Servalan removing the VR gear and telling Travis, also stepping out of gear, that they seem to have finally managed the perfect imitations of the rebels, and now they can get on with creating computer generated news vilifying them. The character junkies would probably feel cheated that the scene wasn't real at all. Likewise a caper story with Avona nd Vila might turn out to be a consensual shared hallucination they are using to speed-train each other in their respective skills, because Avon would be seeing through Vila's eyes and feeling through his fingers as he handled his lockpicks, and Vila was shadowing Avon's movements through computer screens. The cross-skilling would be valuable and if they had the equipment and trust, they very well might try it. But the rebel-cheering enthusiast might feel let down that no power plant was really blown up in the making of this shared hallucination.

As for Paul Darrow, he was disappointed when I told him "no" when he asked if the poem I'd written about him was smutty. But this was in 1991, perhaps his attitude changed later. Neil, some blue jays in my backyard are mooning me. Wonder if they want to be in the pictures, too?

Domestic travelers are the present reaping the benefits.. And it would also depend on what the season is as well, there are often dramatic price differences between the summer and winter seasons. Sorry about this...

In a moment of blatent idocy, I thought my attempt to stop receiving digests from the list (temporarily) wasn't working just because I got a few after changing my status. Another look shows these were some that were delayed (that problem I mentioned about getting digests out of order). So I wrote a few replies to posts, which means I won't see replies to my replies unless someone hits "reply all". I am not leaving the list for good. This is primarily just to give me time to work on fanfic and such for a while. I'll probably pop in on the archives from time to time to see what's going on. I have also been motivated for this time out because of some of the technical problems and because I really think most of the recent acrimonious discussions are unproductive. I also think anyone using a sig file that suggests their debating partner be quiet should consider that we are not oblivious to this form of implied rudeness so all such persons calls for civility come across as hypocricy. I do still want to do the original-character-oriented fanzine. Anyone with questions, submissions, or who wants to suggest a name for it, please email me directly. In fact, that's one of the fanfics I want to work on, the comments about detective stories made me decide to do my own post-The Way Back story in hard-boiled style.

As per Helen's post - yes I agree, he would have said this at any point. I've been thinking about this since I posted it and dont think I explained myself very well - the trouble with posting after a long shift. I do think he is being defiant and standing up for his rights - my interpretation of his suicidel/ depression is at this point it is very subliminal. Totally me reading into this, but I see it as him realising afterwards perhaps that he really did mean it, that he wants to take a break, or possibly more serious. Then slowly his mood and attitude chamging. Then what with the false Blake encounter and Cally's death, i think it was 5 straws after the one that broke the camels back. I didnt know about the 'cannon', but I have to say I disagree, I dont think Avon knew Cally would not let him die. He might suspect, but after Anna and his lack of trust anyway - to trust a Cally taken over by an alien, her track record isnt very good. I think at that point he believed he could be killed.
