We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.] … [View More]INTERACTION, THE 63rd WORLD SCIENCE FICTION CONVENTION http://www.interaction.worldcon.org.uk/ PRESS RELEASE #28 - Hugo Nomination Deadline is Approaching GLASGOW, Friday 25 February 2005 Closing date for Hugo Nominations approaches Interaction reminds members of Noreascon 4 they are eligible to nominate Nominations accepted by post or online The organising committee of Interaction, the 63rd World Science Fiction convention today issued a reminder to all those eligible to nominate works that the closing date for nominations is 11 March 2005. Members of Interaction, who joined before 31 January 2005 and members of Noreascon 4, the 62nd World Science Fiction Convention are eligible to participate in the nomination process. The Hugo Awards are the most prestigious awards in science fiction and it is important that as many eligible nominators as possible participate in the process, said Interaction Co-Chair Colin Harris. Information on how to nominate can be found on Interaction's website at http://www.interaction.worldcon.org.uk/hugovote.htm. Postal nominations must be received at the UK or US Hugo Administration addresses on or before 11 March 2005. Online nominations will be accepted until midnight GMT on the same date, and can be made using a valid membership number and Personal Identification Number (PIN). Hugo PINs were printed on the address labels of Interaction's Progress Report 3. Noreascon 4 members who have not joined Interaction were sent postal cards with their Hugo PIN information. The Hugo Awards, were first presented in 1952, and are named in honour of Hugo Gernsback, publisher of Amazing Stories and the man considered to be the Father of Magazine Science Fiction. Eligible nominators are entitled to name their favourite five works in each category. Awards are presented each year in thirteen categories including Novel, Dramatic Presentations, Fan Writing, and Art, for work that appeared the previous calendar year. In addition, each organising committee has the option to add a special once-off category. Interaction has elected to do so and a Hugo Award for best Web Site will be presented. Based on the nominations received, a final ballot will be announced towards the end of March and all members of Interaction will be entitled to vote for their favourite. The winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony in the Clyde Auditorium of the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre on Sunday 7 August 2007. The installment plan enables members to spread the cost of joining over a series of regular payments and has proved highly successful with nearly 200 plans taken up so far. To enable this extension, installment plans taken out from 1 March 2005 to 30 April 2005 will operate on the basis of monthly installments, with all payments to be collected by credit card. All plans will operate on the basis of three installments: - A supporting membership, due at the time the plan is set up. - Two equal payments for conversion to full attending membership, collected one month and two months after the plan is set up respectively. The total amount payable under the plan reflects the current adult attending membership rate, which stands at £110, $195 or 165 EUR. På förra bokmötet bestämde vi att _Cloud Atlas_ av David Mitchell får bli en bokbokmötesbok. Den verkar nu finnas att köpa i pocket. Den är nominerad för Clarke-priset och den var nominerad för Booker-priset men vann inte. Jag föreslår att folk som är intresserad kan skaffa boken så bestämmer vi i början av mars något datum. UPN and Paramount Network Television have jointly announced that this will be the final season of Star Trek: Enterprise on UPN. Programmet på Interaction

Förra helgen var jag och Carolina på Construction 4 i Glasgow - en så kallad staff weekend inför Interaction där bla programmet diskuterades och planerades. Flera ansvariga pratade med oss om att de gärna ville ha med fler europeer i programmet. Det här är ju faktiskt den första världskongressen i Europa på tio år och då kan det vara kul med mer än de vanlig amerikanerna (och en del britter) i programmet. Fast jag gillade faktiskt de delar av Enterprise som jag sett. Klart bästa trekserien - med brist på rara barn, holodeck, transportrar och nedtonad moralisk överlägsenhet. Senare säsonger (som jag inte sett) fick delvis utmärkt kritik i SFX dessutom (och där brukar kritiken vara nyanserad och rätt tillförlitlig enligt min erfarenhet).
