This is an analysis from Jenny.
Annie Wortham
This lyst has been a place of many pleasant experiences.
This is soft soap.
Some years back,
the enthusiasm and camaraderie of lysator revived my enthusiasm for B7.
She hates Blake's 7. Here's the background: During the mid to late 1980's she ran a series of B7 conventions in Chicago, her partner was Leah Rosenthal. She ruled those events with a rod of iron. Then she fell out with Terry Nation. The event effectively destroyed B7 fandom in America and the shock waves from that event are still being felt today.
in fact, many years ago, lysator was the very first internet mailing
list I
ever belonged to. I learned about etiquette here and many other fun and interesting things.
Lysator was set up in 1992. Not long after Annie and Leah lost power.
Over the many years I've been a member, the discussions have ranged from friendly to heated and everything in between. We've disagreed, there
have been
conflicts, but it all seemed to be within the context of our views of a
tv
show.
Very interesting that statement. Especially given the hate posts last month. How much of that was actually about a TV show at all? Annie and Leah have tried, and for the most part, been successful in distorting the show completely out of context. There are many reasons why they've been doing this, I'll tell you the most important one. Because they can.
It's because I cherish the lyst that I was reluctant to report that lack
of
civility on the lyst now extends beyond its confines.
This Lyst is another instrument of their power. Dangerous.
It's also because I
cherish the lyst that I feel I have to share this distressing situation.
Soft soap.
Because the next target may be you.
She's personalising the argument now. She's saying that she is an innocent person who has been unfairly attacked. She isn't, she wasn't. Look at what she has done in the past. She's tried this innocent act before. And when she's prodded, she turns into a snarling wolf.
Over the last few weeks, I have suddenly begun receiving massive amounts
of
pornographic emails, not just on my main account, but on every single account where I have website space.
Pornographic. This is interesting because the Ashton Press website is all about pornography. It uses actors likenesses without their permission. It takes scenes from the programme, give them a "slashy twist" and then reinterprets those scenes back into their brand of homophobic slash fiction. You know the sort of thing. Take a scene from the Web. Add sex. Now change a detail or two-- make it Tarrant not Blake, the flight deck not the hold. What you have then is something which resembles the show, but differs from it in one important detail. So back and forth, from fanfic to TV show, until eventually they become indistinguishable, and the slash interpretation reigns supreme. Clever isn't it? It's called brainwashing.
These accounts are never used for email
and I have NEVER, in years on the internet, received spam at any of those addresses.
A lot of this is exaggeration, but still so what?
I also have received a pornographic message in my guest book at
my main website for the first time ever.
So what? Why should pornography offend you? You revel in it. You write it. You have defended it very vocally onlyst. Hardcore porn is something you are very familiar with. Instead of complaining why don't you just print it all up for the next Ashton Press publication. It's probably better written anyway.
Yesterday, while attempting to find the source of this Internet
Vandalism,
I discovered a newsgroup post that called for an "attack" on my website.
Do you know what this so-called internet vandal site is? It's a comedy group. Well-known in the international press for its parodies. Basically the group found what you were all about and took the piss, that's all. What you and Leah are doing is a million times more harmful than a few joke emails. What you are perpetuating here a sickness.
Please read the entire newsgroup thread at:
I've snipped this for obvious reasons, but if you do want a look, then check out Annie's original email.
If you will click on the website link of the person posting the
disturbing
messages,
Disturbing? What you've been doing *is* disturbing. You are messing with people's perceptions. Where do you think the IMO's came from? You have also been feeding off the unrequited love of innocent people. People on here are being used in a revolting way.
I think many of you will be saddened and surprised to find a rather prolific member of this Lyst as the perpetrator.
For the entire time Fiona was on here she was indirectly fighting you and Leah, and you know it.
I don't know what to make of this
behaviour.
That's a lie. You know exactly what to make of it. You make capital from it. You use it for the sympathy vote. But why? Because of me, that's why. You thought I was Fiona didn't you? You're wrong. Fiona is an innocent.
I'm still coming to terms with it.
LOL. You are a pornographer. What is there to come to terms with? Nothing. Now if Leah had written this post, that slip wouldn't have been made. Leah is highly intelligent, but then her type often are. Power mad of course.
Until it happened, I wouldn't have expected a fan to do this to another fan.
You are a liar Annie. That has been proved over and over again. Terry Nation called you a liar. Some of the actors from the series have called you a liar. We saw you in action just over a month ago, making personal attacks on people by twisting their emails out of shape to win your petty little ego wars. You're not interested in discussion, only in putting forward your own point of view. Any one remember Annie telling everyone that the Wall Street Journal had printed an article saying Lycos was going bankrupt, and was deleting all its free sites? And not long after that we learned that there had been no such article, and that the deleting was due to a glitch? Shane was right. You *are* insane.
The barrage of pornographic Spam has forced me to block all email for
most
of my addresses and block the relevant domains/email addresses for my
main
account.
Barrage? This is quite clearly bollocks. How can an attack on a single website lead to every single one of Annie's e-mail addresses becoming non-functional? For that matter, where is she e-mailing from now?
If anyone else has been the victim of similar attacks and would
like information on ways to deal with it, please contact me privately and
I'll
explain the steps I've taken.
I find that a very sinister thing to say. If this hasn't happened to Annie before then where is she getting her info from? Unless she's conducted similar things against other people in the past. If you use poison, then you should also know the antidote.
So, a word of warning.
That's true.
As someone recently said, disagreement *is*
dangerous on this list.
Now that is the most telling at all. What she is saying here is that "disagreement is bad". That basically sums up the whole Ashton Press attitude. Don't disagree with Ashton Press, or they'll hate you for it.
Oh, and by the way, Annie and Leah are on Lysator and Freedom City not just under their own names, but under various aliases. This is why they're so obsessed with other people using aliases. Some of their aliases have been emailing me offlyst. Trying to find out what I'm about. Isn't that right Leah? I can recognise a wolf when I see one. These people are extremely dangerous.

I've been trying to stay out of this and hope it goes away, but...
This lyst has been a place of many pleasant experiences.
I would agree--there are never more than a few people creating unpleasantness. Usually even people who disagree strongly can do so in a civilized manner.
The event effectively destroyed B7 fandom in America
There seems to be lots of B7 fandom left after this "destruction"
Over the last few weeks, I have suddenly begun receiving massive
amounts
of
pornographic emails, not just on my main account, but on every single account where I have website space.
I'm sorry--I would hope that everyone who benefits from the Internet would recognize our mutual interdependence and reliance on good behavior from others, and I wish you hadn't been subjected to such vandalism.
Pornographic. This is interesting because the Ashton Press website is all about pornography.
Ashton Press has a long history of publishing, most of it gen. I really like their publications, but those who don't have the simple remedy of not buying them.
So back and forth, from fanfic to TV show, until eventually they become indistinguishable, and the slash interpretation reigns supreme. Clever isn't it? It's called brainwashing.
You can't brainwash anyone by publishing fiction.
What you are perpetuating here a sickness.
No, they're publishing and distributing magazines that have given a lot of pleasure to a lot of people over time. But there are plenty of other B7 gen publishers for those who don't want to read slash fiction.
Until it happened, I wouldn't have expected a fan to do this to another fan.
