As we're now twenty years Post-Gauda Prime, I thought I would ask, what are
everyone's favourite PGP stories? Among my own favourites are Anna S's
'Closing The File', and Judith Proctor's 'Shane'. And for 'averting Gauda
Prime', and as a great Christmas story in addition, I have to nominate Sally
Manton's beautiful 'A Christmas Canto',from the 'Star Four' zine.
Mel.
Merry Christmas to everyone on the Lyst.

I forgot to add, Sheila Paulson's splendid 'Limbo', which I'm re-reading at
this very moment.

After fifteen minutes of trying to get the humans and their obnoxious,
square shaped palantir to stop arguing with each other long enough to
explain the situation, Elrond had had enough. Grabbing Gandalf's staff,
he threw a small lightening bolt into the middle of the crowd. Finally,
he had their attention.
"Thank you," he said, handing the staff back with a nod of thanks.
"You'll all get your chance to speak - _one_ at a time." He looked them
over. His eyes settled on a slight, grey cloaked figure in the back, the
only one who hadn't been yelling at anyone else. "You there, you've been
awfully quiet. What do you have to say?"
Cally pushed back her hood, looking sheepish. "Er, hello, Daddy."

I've just created a new mailing list, and I'd be delighted if any
of you interesting people could join me there.
The GenFicCrit mailing list is a list for discussing fan fiction
in general and in particular.
- Gen stands for gen (not slash or adult), general (any fandom), general
(fan fiction in general)
- Fic stands for Fan Fiction
- Crit stands for Critique, and "Criticism" in the classic sense of
literary criticism, not of tearing into or tearing down or tearing
apart. Rather, it implies intelligent analysis.
We adhere to the principles of the
<http://trickster.org./fca/:Fanfiction Critics Association>;
that is, we respect Fan fiction enough to treat it with the same
legitimacy as any other work of fiction, including being able to examine
it seriously and in detail, without fear or favour.
This is not a writer's support group. There are quite a few of them
around, take a look at
<http://www.smartgroups.com/groups/fanficideas>
<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fanfic_writer/>
<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Beta_Unlimited/>
for example. That isn't to say we don't want writers here -- far from
it! Because most writers are readers first, and have good ideas about
what they like and don't like in fanfic, and that's what we're
interested in talking about.

Soolin: It's a bad place to be. No self-respecting idealist
would be found dead there.
Avon: I imagine that is what HE is trying to avoid: being found dead
anywhere. (Blake's 7: Blake [D13])

Elrond's whispered reply to Avon:
The One Ring would utterly corrupt anyone who carried it to Mt Doom, the
heartland of its power. And we couldn't find anyone brave, tough, or stupid
enough to knock a giant eagle into the Cracks of Doom afterwards...

I remember walking in the snow, numb with disbelief. But, like Sally, I
still wouldn't have had it any other way, it was so bold and startling and
utterly unexpected. Sometimes the good guys don't win.

What is the quote along the lines of better go while people ask why than stay and have people ask why?
Better that B7 finished when it did than fade out into something 'silly' (as has happened with several other series)

And what would happen if you gave it to someone totally corrupt in a different way? Eg Dorian
