Just wondering but, even more than what are people's favorite PGPs, what makes them people's favorites? Do some people like one kind over others (dark continuations [just when you thought it couldn't get _worse_ scenarios] vs upbeat [invasion from the Smiley Face universe] vs restoring the status quo [for any of the seasons])? Airfares from Australia are *substantial* and for those of us without much money, conventions are very out of reach. :( And there simply isn't many conventions in Australia and none that I've heard of a B7 contingent attending. *sigh* (If anyone knows otherwise, contradict me please! ;)) Commenting on other points rasing in this thread, I prefer to read fiction on paper. Merry Christmas everyone. Could I put in a request - if your fan fiction was published in a magazine which is now out of print, would you please post it somewhere on the web (preferably Judith's Library, as that makes it easy to find)? It's very frustrating to read rapturous reviews of something that as a newbie, geographically isolated from long time fans, I have no hope of obtaining. I think the feeling of 'deprivation' is less to do with current stories, of which there's a fair amount available online (through the websites and mailing lists), and others that go into zines (and the recent crop of zines has IMO been particularly high-quality) so both net and print people *do* get a share of the available pie (I know the feeling of "but I want it all!!!" but Mother always told you to share, didn't she? :-)). It's the older stories - the ones that were on those PGP lists that started this discussion :-) that make the print side look so much bigger. Blakes 7 is an older fandom and the simple fact is that a lot of good stories are in older zines, quite a few are by people who aren't in the fandom any more anyway, so getting the right to put them up (from writer and editor) then getting it *done* (someone has to then do the work. I'm typing a long Helen Parkinson story out for Judith at the minute, 'cause I don't have a scanner) is going to take time, and may turn out to be impossible. OTOH, there is another kind of buzz in *finally* getting hold of one that you've heard about for ages and have been looking for (I got the 2nd & 3rd parts of the 'Mind of Man is a Double-Edged Sword' trilogy months *before* I managed to get my hands on the first part. As a newbie to the list I can see why other newbie's think it's not fair that all fan fiction is not available on line there seems to be so much I have missed. However as a librarian I also see the point made by Kathryn Andersen and fully support her, you don't see many"professional" writers giving away their royalties by publishing online (and by professional I mean they make their living by it, many fan fic writers are more professional than some best selling authors). So Kathryn I am asking nicely when you have time will you please put your out of print stories on Katspace I would love to read them and like the others I am geographically isolated in the valleys of South Wales. If anyone out there knows of secondhand book shops in Newport Cardiff or bristol and at a pinch Swansea that sell Blake's 7 fanzines please let me know. I'm sure several other people have already mentioned this. Judith Proctor sells items the old fashioned way--via snail mail ordering as well as via internet ordering. To assume you can only buy from Judith via the internet is wrong. Various zines and newsletters in the past have carried her sale lists and prices. All anyone needs is Judith's phone number or snail mail address to ask for a new printed zine list or merchandise list. And Judith's snail mail address has appeared in lots of things over the years. Actually, until I got online a little over two years ago I always ordered my items from Judith via snail mail. And I still pay for my items using snail mail. I have yet to use her internet site for paying for anything I have ordered from her. And I order from her a lot. For instance, I have gotten gotten all the Soldier of Love CDs and Dalek Empire CDs via her. As well as the Blake and Avon figurines. And a bunch of other stuff too. Just this week, I sent Judith's address to a person not on line so that she could get in contact with her concerning merchandise. Joyce

Well, I can only speak as a *non*-expert, having 2 whole stories in zines, 2 short pieces on Judith's website and the usual number of semi-finished burbles scattered all over my hard drive ... The buzz from seeing the first story - 'Christmas Canto' - in Star 4 was absolutely wonderful, I wouldn't have traded it for anything. The second time (for the Blake zine) was just as wonderful, since - not being a last-minute addition - that story got illustrated with Pat Fenech's gorgeous photo-montages :-) It was great fun seeing the shorter pieces up on the web, and I thoroughly enjoy posting fiction to Freedom City and getting immediate feedback, but I would like to have more in print eventually (not that I'm all that sure where to send them, since both of my printed stories were basically by request) just for that buzz. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp.

It is strictly web-based because it is a lot of work printing onto paper. The internet in general will save many a tree, moreover. I write mainly about the B7 women.
