I think I'd do the same in both cases.
Travis massacred civilians, and if Blake had killed him on Centero or Aristo
(OK, not in 'Duel' as it was a test) then things would have been a lot
better for the rebels. Yes, I know it's not in Blake's character, but he's a
better person than me, Gunga Din.
Vila was 'adjusted' more than once, presumably suffering as much as Blake
did, and Shrinker was a torturer he may even have encountered. I'd do the
same. I don't think Vila would have pulled the trigger on Shrinker if he had
the chance though; OTOH I might in his place!
