original crew of the Liberator

The DSV's crew could be Altas and slaves but there would be occasions when crew members were out of direct contact with Zen (or its equivalents), and the slave Blake meets is certainly capable of independent mental activity. (I assume that the designation 'Deep Space Vessel indicates that it was a research vessel: Zen's statement that information must be acquired not given would be consistent with this. Was the 'image device' Zen used on the persons from the London a means of keeping revolting slaves away from the flight deck?) One issue that has to be considered is whether the System's space centre is the equivalent of a (Terran) dome or of Servalan's command base (in either case with the equivalent of Central Control integrated). It is clear from the way the Liberator 'fits into' the holding bay (including the access doors) DSVs date from at least the time the space structure was constructed (and there are at least two holding bays - as the other DSV was not previously seen when the Liberator arrived).

(As usual, this review can also be found at my Net-fic reviews page <http://www.katspace.com/reviews/netfic>) The Way To Go Home (Blake's 7/Real Ghostbusters) by Sheila Paulson <venkie(a)aol.com> at <http://members.aol.com/Venkie/rgb/rgb.htm> This is a sequel to "Limbo" but doesn't work quite so well. It's more self-indulgent and doesn't have the same kind of unifying theme as the previous story. The characters are too insightful to be true, I just found that a bit too hard to believe. And I wasn't really comfortable with the advice to the B7 characters to be more "touchy-feely" because, well, they just aren't that kind of people (especially Avon!). On the other hand, there were moments of wit, cool wierdness, action and definitely a lot of niceness, so if you feel like some niceness, and want to find out what happened next, then you wouldn't be wasting your time. (As usual, this review can also be found at my Net-fic reviews page <http://www.katspace.com/reviews/netfic>) Limbo by Sheila Paulson <venkie(a)aol.com> at <http://members.aol.com/Venkie/rgb/rgb.htm> This story has a number of things in it which would send many a fan running for the delete key even before they'd tried to read the story. It has an original female protagonist. It's set in the 20th Century. It's told in first-person. And almost the only other Blake's 7 character in the story is Avon. But before you start screaming "Mary-Sue! Mary-Sue! Kill! Kill! Kill!" let me tell you the things which rescue this story from Mary-Sue-dom. Firstly, I doubt very much that Sheila Paulson is a widow living in Iowa. And the protagonist certainly isn't Mz. Perfect. But more importantly, this story works because of the thematic resonance set up between the protagonist and Avon, both being people who've shut out the world because of the pain of loss. Well, *I* think it works. And it's fun to see the reaction of Avon to things in the 20th Century. Some people may still find it too much of a wishlist of all the things one could say to Avon to try to make it right. But, hey, this is Sheila Paulson! Happy endings are her middle name. I read this story some time back, and I have to say I liked it a lot. The ocf didn't strike me as too Mary-Sue-ish, she was handled very well, IMO. Mind you, I haven't come across many of that type of story to compare it with. I particularly liked the way the widow's dog, which was her husbands ad only really tolerated her for his sake, attached itself to Avon, and the way he pretended not to care and then fondled it under cover of the table. As so little is known about the crew, I've had fun making up pasts for them too. Sorry to have put you off doing a novelisation though. (snipped nov. of S1 E11 & 12 and David's Gan on Star Queen) Nico I'm not sure about this one. My Gan has a different background, but I wouldn't impose that on a novelisation of a series episode. I too would like to do one some time when I'm not too busy, but I won't add anything from my universe, IOW tell one of my own stories. David It is a fair comment. I yield and defer, and delegate the novelisation to someone else. Just as an example from the archives (snipped anti-female Gan) David Me, I go for the gentle giant idea. See post 17854. It is worth holding in mind. Nico Maybe people could suggest some rules for consistency, (e.g. stick to canon) but too many restrictions would also take the fun out of it.
