An aside--why do people think this? He's very honest about being a thief,
and doesn't tell tall stories. I think what we hear about him is quite
consistent. He was a Delta (he never claimed otherwise), he was in the JD
wards and at least one other penal colony. I see the ignorance rating (4th
or 5th grade) as separate from the Delta grading. I don't see why Space
Command wouldn't draft Deltas into their ranks (most would probably be quite
eager--join Space Fleet and see the galaxy--and we saw some officers who
were probably lower grades e.g. S2 Travis), and Vila certainly had the
intelligence (if not the courage or inclination) to be an officer. I can see
that he'd buy an ignorance rating (as opposed to grading) which would
disqualify him.
I can see Vila rabbiting on about anything under the suns except his
personal life. I think he's as private as Avon in his way but uses a
different strategy (a very successful one) to deflect interest).

Absolutely! He might listen to the others though without acknowledging his
interest.
Dayna's would be soporific (50 different ways to kill Sarrans)
Poor Dayna wouldn't have much to talk about. Did they even get viscasts on
Sarran?

And I'd react the same way much as I like Cally.

LOL!

Oh, no?
Blake: That was a pretty severe meteor storm.
Vila: Not as bad as that one you made us go through on the way to Destiny.
Made me sick to the stomach.
Gan: You shouldn't have eaten a whole packet of biscuits just before it,
Vila.
Jenna: You think that was bad? Let me tell you about the time I was
smuggling black gold for the Amagons. In one trip we hit meteor storms,
black holes, a supernova that wasn't on the charts, and a really thick
nebula--visibility was down to 5000 spacials.
Cally: My people tell stories of clouds which slowly digest spaceships.
Vila: If you're trying to scare me, Cally--you're succeeding.
Avon: Yes, well. Some people will believe anything.
