I just recalled that one of the hiking tours I did in Ireland was down the "Kerry Way" (unless it's a different spelling - I always forget these things). There were some other interesting, Kerr-related toponyms along the way, a narrow path connecting two mountain tops called "The Knife's Edge", and "The Black Valley" just underneath. Obviously the psychic disposition responsible for these names was not unlike Avon's. (Synge claimed this was the effect of mist). N.

Remember the old discussions on where names came from. Someone brought up they'd never heard of Kerr, and others pointed out the name was familiar from home canning. In fact, I have a Kerr jar in my house. Underneath the embossed script "Kerr" is the phrase "Wide-mouth Mason jar". Avon could be a big-mouth sometimes. Masons are a secretive lot who supposedly have esoteric knowlege. I wonder if the name *was* inspired by the canning jar, after all.

Blake's 7-- As Time Goes By

Our local PBS station has started running "As Time Goes By", a TV show set years after a couple parted, finding themselves thrown in each other's way again. With the Blake's 7 movie still searching for a purpose, I find myself imagining... Girl in Federation uniform, albeit ornamented with spangles, rhinestone, and ruffles, to another girl officer> I'm so excited. I've finally arranged parole for Del Tarrant. I've always suspected he was really my father, and I know that he and Mum will go wild when they see each other again. Other girl> (looking dubious) I don't know, Clonella. Do you think Sleer will want to be associated with a former deserter and rebel. Clonella> (archly) She certainly associated with him once. Don't let my name fool you. Sleer> (enters) Clonella, darling, have you managed to overthrow the gorvernor of planet Pembroke like a good girl? The political nightmares he's allowed loose on that planet! Oh, it's Carnell's daughter with you, isn't it? Carnell's Daughter> Yes, and he already told me you arranged those political nightmares to happen on Pembroke. Anyhow, you don't want me hanging around, you have company coming. (exits) Sleer> Clonella, whatever did she mean? Clonella> Mum, you remember the planet with the vampire Sand?...
