(Yes, there are other aspects!) It would be nice to have some kind of lightship for guidance in the sea of written material. So, could other people please tell me: what are your Top Ten B7 stories? I haven't sorted out anything as organized as a Top 10 list, but I would recommend: Tom Beck, Blessed be the Memory, a quite unusual PGP, available at the Bang and Blame archive (http://www.pagerealm.com/seriese/index.htm) as well as the Hermit Library. I love the PGP essays too. Bang and Blame is also where you'll find Alicia Ann Fox's sublime Dead Blake Sketch. In the Hermit Library: Dan's Harvest of Kairos Encounter Group, Marian de Haan's A Dismal Performance, and Anna S's Closing the File. -(Y)

Why did Avon take Vila with him of all people. If he suspected Egrorian would try some foul play and wanted someone else to keep an eye on him then almost *anyone* would have been a better choice than Vila. He's not exactly the most alert of the crew. Interesting parallels between the way Avon and Egrorian treat their 'assistants'. Avon doesn't treat Vila as brutally as Egrorian does Pinder but he certainly has shoved him about enough times, and is frequently insulting and unkind to him verbally. Both Avon and Egrorian were willing to abandon their companions to get themselves safely off Malodar. Vila seems sympathetic to Pinder and Egrorian apparently likes Vila. Pinder overhears Egrorian and Servalan planning to leave him behind as Vila overhears Avon and Orac discussing how to lose 70 kilos. The scenes where's Avon is looking for Vila still make me jumpy when I watch them. I love the look on Avon's face and the little shake of his head before he does make up his mind to go after Vila. And that calm quiet voice when he's calling to Vila I find much nastier than any Avon snarl. I wish we could have seen Vila's reaction the other side of that door, it's clear he realised almost immediately how Avon would react and legged it to find a hiding place but I wonder if he paused for a moment too wondering if Avon would really try to kill him. I also find it interesting that Vila remains hiding even when Avon genuinely is telling the truth, that he's found the cause of the extra weight. Not that Vila's hasn't got ample reason to be paranoid by this point! A friend who was watching it with me who hadn't seen B7 before said that was really sad...that Vila was too scared to come out even then. Leia

I haven't been following this thread but I am assuming that people are picking their favorite 10 gen stories. I always find it hard to pick stories because I can never remember titles or authors. But this would be my selection today--and, of course, it might be different tomorrow. Some of these stories appeared in various zines and some are available online. I did NOT give all the sources. However, the Lovett stories are NOT available online. To read her excellent stories --and I cannot praise her high enough--you have to buy a print zine and one is still in print. Someone might want to point out the places some of these stories are available online for the ones I didn't list. To buy used zines, I always recommend Jim Rondeau's website which is http://www.mypage.onemain.com/makeitgoaway/home.htm Various of these stories are available at Judith's site which is http://www.hermit.org/Blakes7/Library/SrchReq.cgi 1. The Road to Hell -- Suzan Lovett -- Definitely my number 1. There is no question about this at all. The rest are not in any order despite the numbering. 2. Doppleganger -- Lovett 3. Gemini Rising -- Lovett 4. Circle of Fire -- Lovett 5. Lightbridge -- Lovett ---These are all available from Judith Proctor in the zine named The Road to Hell which reprinted these stories together. Originally the stories were in Powerplay 1, Powerplay 2, and Those Who Favor Fire. 6. Game of Humanity --Sheila Paulson (and the sequel which is The Dreamers in Blake's Doubles 4. I will count these as one story.) Game of Humanity is in Probability Square and perhaps it's online at Judith's site. I'm not sure. Memory fails me again. 7. What Are Legend --Linda Terrell -- Something Unfriendly This Way Comes 1 and also at Judith's site 8. Double Duel -- Catherine Salmon -- Evasive Maneuvers (This is a gen,adult, and slash zine--with probably more slash than anything else. Throwing It All Away -- Leah Rosenthal and Ann Wortham -- Southern Seven 1 15. Duel, or, The Folly of Madness --Margaret Scroggs--Horizon 17 I apologize for not being able to limit it to ten. There is only one humorous story in this list and that is Throwing It All Away. It's hilarious. Scroggs's Duel is indeed a very interesting story in that it is the episode Duel done in the style of Shakespeare. I bought the zine for this one story alone and considered it money well spent. In general the writers I have listed are writers that I like and writers who write consistently good stories with great characterizations in them. I see right now that I have left out two favorite writers of mine--Pat Fenech and Bryn Lantry. If I were a more organized person, I would search through my zines and pick a story of each of theirs that I like, but I am not that organized. I, however, do want to mention that they are favorite writers of mine and thus my list is not really set in stone. As I said, tomorrow my list could very easily differ but I am betting that most of the same 12 writers would be on it. Joyce

Although I haven't overhauled this list for several years and undoubtedly would replace some of the items on it with more recent offerings if I did, it still stands as a collection of fine stories I would heartily recommend. The stories are listed alphabetically. Be advised that #10 is slash. (Aside to Natasa: I'm afraid many of these *are* A-B stories. Not all, though. Though how Avon knew that... hmmm... must have been in some security files accessed by Orac I guess. Wow, a good structural symmetry that I never noticed before (everyone else probably thinking - call yourself an obsessive, and you missed that). This is an endlessly interesting discussion for me, I liked the input on the psychology of hiding. The first time I played paintball I spent 10 minutes hiding safely in a burned out range rover, then thought 'sod this' and went running towards the guns, hmmm, well towards the little blobs of paint anyway, which isn't quite so impressive.
