Filtering of git repository

This is a heads-up regarding replacing the main Pike git repository with a filtered copy. The main reason why we'd want to do that is that there is a syntax error in the timestamp fields of the commit objects, causing "git fsck" to complain about most commits. In order to fix that, I have run "git filter-branch" on the repository, performing transforms on the commit objects to fix the timestamp issue, but also fix some other issues which ought to be addressed if we are doing a filtering anyway. These include replacing some obsolete email addresses, as well as removing empty commits and fixing some whitespace issues. See <http://pike-svn.lysator.liu.se/twiki/bin/view/Main/RepoFilter> for a complete list of changes made to the repository. Please look through the list of changes, and if there is something which should be added or removed, please say so. A filtered version of the current repository can also be examined at <git://pike-git.lysator.liu.se/pike-filtered.git>. If there are no objections, we could declare a flag-day (say, next Saturday) when the filtered repository replaces the current one. Of course, a new filtering would then be performed so that any commits made after today are also included. It would make things simpler if no new commits were pushed during the 5 hours it takes to run the filtering operation though. If the repository is replaced with the filtered version, it means basically that all commits get new SHAs. If you have local branches tracking the upstreams branches with rebasing, performing a "git pull" should be able to sort things out automatically. However, if you have non-tracking branches they may need to be rebased manually. When all your work is rebased on the new repository, running "git gc" to get rid of the old duplicate commits is recommended. Questions and comments are welcome.

cmod include

is there a possibility to include cmod files? We have cases where several different classes share the same code but inherits wont do because the code is only syntactically the same. if not, maybe something which would be good to have to avoid some copy and paste? merry christmas arne

Roxen.http_redirect question

Not sure if I can post my roxen questions here...but I'm still going to: I have to redirect a http call. The original requestId has a variable I want to maintain. My question is; will the variable be passed with the redirect? I have no easy way (network wise) to test this at the moment. libgit2

hi, i just found out about libgit2, a c library that implements git core functionality. http://libgit2.github.com/ i wonder if that library is suitable for servers like roxen (replace the cvs backend for roxen platform/cms) or similar uses. i am not suggesting to use it, just wondering how to find out what kind of requirements there are for such a lib to work in pike. is there anything beyond thread safety? greetings, martin.

Pike 7.8/Roxen5 problem

Well, the weirdnesses keep popping up as I write this program... :-) Pike v7.8 release 473 running Hilfe v3.5 (Incremental Pike Frontend) > int z; > sscanf("HOPP", "%*s%n", z); (1) Result: 2 > z; (2) Result: 4 > "HEJHOPP"[3..]; (3) Result: "HOPP" > sscanf("HEJHOPP"[3..], "%*s%n", z); (4) Result: 2 > z; (5) Result: 7 > Surely the result of sscanf("HOPP", ... should be the same regardless of how I compute the value "HOPP"?

Ignoring config.h.in

Git status bothers me about untracked files: # Untracked files: # (use "git add <file>..." to include in what will be committed) # # src/modules/Gz/zlib_machine.h.in # src/modules/Pipe/config.h.in # src/modules/SANE/config.h.in # src/modules/_Image_GIF/config.h.in # src/modules/_Image_JPEG/config.h.in # src/modules/_Image_TIFF/config.h.in # src/modules/_Image_XFace/config.h.in # src/modules/_Regexp_PCRE/pcre_machine.h.in # src/post_modules/_ADT/config.h.in # src/post_modules/_Image_SVG/config.h.in Turns out that the patterns for these files in .gitignore have trailing whitespace, something cvs apparently ignored but git does not. It'd be nice if the conversion had taken care of this, but I guess the only option now is to correct the patterns at the branch heads?
