hi please take the following pressrelease and send it to any news outfit you can think of. translate it to your language (a french translation is in the works) and send it to local technical news providers. any computer magazine, computer related news site, newsgroups, mailinglists that you are on. or any other place that might fit. ---------------begin pressrelease------------------------- - Pike - Caudium - sTeam - psycMUVE - LPC - October 13 - 19, 2004 Pike Users Worldwide Converge on Essen Next Week This years largest Pike event will be the Pike Camp in Essen, Germany from October 13th through the 19th. Users and developers of the Pike Language will be arriving in Essen from all over the world, including Sweden, USA, Latvia, Hungary, Austria, France and Germany for a week of talks, technical workshops and tutorials. Included in the week's events are the 3rd annual Pike Conference, 2nd annual Caudium conference, sTeam developer day and PSYC MODV: the 5th PSYC modification event. This year's keynote will be delivered by Uwe Aßmann, Chair of Software Engineering at Technical University of Dresden, on "Pike between UML and Java: a use case in University Education." All users and developers interested in Pike and its applications, including those new to Pike, are encouraged to attend any portion of the event. Beginner Pike tutorials will be held every day. Registration is ongoing, and more information is available from the Camp and Conference websites, found below. Additionally, you may contact the conference committee for additional information at conference(a)gotpike.org. About Pike Pike is a dynamic programming language with a syntax similar to Java and C. It is simple to learn, does not require long compilation passes and has powerful built-in data types allowing simple and really fast data manipulation. Pike is a reimplementation of the LPC language, its application domain spans anything from the world of the Net to the world of multimedia applications, or environments where your shell could use some spicy text processing or system administration tools. Your imagination sets the limit, but Pike will probably extend it far beyond what you previously considered within reach. Mysterious segfault... solved by increasing -s...

Hi, Playing with sqlite module (by Bill), got some mysterious segfault after ca. 140K rows were returned... It was completely mysterious, pointing to places like: push_text("val"); // I replaced original to test it... where all variable values were normal (according to gdb), but valgrind went crazy... Well... The story finished when I started pike with -s1000000 - everything is OK - despite the fact that processing of 1000000 rows takes ca. 500M or RAM :) So... The question... Isn't something that is controlled by -s (pike stack, I guess - values are accumulated on stack before aggregation) supposed to check stack size against oversizing? functions like push_* or whatever? To be honest, it took me few hours of hunting without any clue about reasons - and totally useless coredumps, valgrind reports, etc... Ah... It was tried with pike 7.6.24... Not sure if this is relevant, but I remember that early (some time ago) I got a message like "Stack overflow" from Pike, when it was too small (even without --rtl-debug etc.). NB: Bill, there are some troubles with sqlite3 support - I fixed them and will send a patch to you shortly... Unless you fixed those already :) Regards, /Al

port problem when update from 7.4 to 7.6

Not sure why I am receiving this error. I just updated from 7.4 to 7.6 and now I get this error when I try to run my program. Too many arguments to Port->create(). Expected at most 1. Unknown program: Port->create(({"C:/EMAGE/kernel.pike"})) C:/EMAGE/kernel: C:/EMAGE/kernel(ANY:({ /* 1 element */ "C:/EMAGE/kernel.pike" }))->create(@0=({"C:/EMAGE/kernel.pike"})) C:/Program Files/Pike/lib/modules/Stdio.pmod/module.pmod:1277: C:/EMAGE/kernel(A NY:({ /* 1 element */ "C:/EMAGE/kernel.pike" }))->create(@01,0,0) All I am doing is inheriting Stdio.Port so I can use the bind function. ADT.Set

For the sake of completeness, I've added an ADT.Set to 7.7. It is, of course, less efficient than just using a mapping (or a multiset), but it might make the code slightly more readable, and supports some more stuff than ordinary mappings, such as x <= y to check if x is a subset of y.

They already know about this; About the name "Pike" It's the codename of a product in beta. When it's finalized we'll give it a different name. We're aware that there's a scripting language named Pike. We weren't aware of it when we chose the name. Thanks for all the respectful mail I've gotten on this. No flames, or threats, just "Are you aware?" type questions. hi, i just came accross this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pike_(cipher) there is aparently a cipher called Pike. shouldn't nettle implement that one? greetings, martin.

Pike Mailing List archives

I've set up a web app that allows you to search the Pike mailing list archives back as far as 1996. Hopefully, that's as far back as anyone wants to go. I'm just finishing up the load, so within the next few hours, it will be up to date, and new posts are autmatically added. http://www.gotpike.org/ (click on pike mailing list archives) the interface is currently rather spare, but it's functional for what 90% of people need it for.
