A dystopian novel would be fun. _Brave New World_ is good, but how about _We_ by Eugene Zamiatin, which was influential on George Orwell's _1984_?
Or how about one of the old Utopian novels, such as _Men Like Gods_ by H. G. Wells or _Looking Backward_ by Edward Bellamy?
