I agree Reeve was a detestable character but I consider him well written as a slimeball. I was sorry to see him being killed off so early in the episode because he had the potential for making life very difficult for Servalan.

I have to say that like Judith I had to get over one of the actors previous roles - given that the role was in Howards Way, and is something of a longtime family in-joke, the fact that Reeve came across as strongly as he did is a tribute to both actor and writer.
It's a relief to get a villain who isn't mad or OTT, but is just plain nasty without shouting about it. I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't quite a few Reeves in the less enlightened penal systems of the globe.
What was the business with Servalan coming over all moralistic about the fact that Reeve was a torturer, given the number of people who spent time reassuring her interrogators ? Did her new found cover involve a CV that ran:
252-254 N.C. Head of Amnesty International 254- present Security Commissioner in charge of the Pacification Programme.
Hobbies and Interests: Birdwatching, Haute Couture, Galactic Domination...oops, no sorry...Gardening.
