Sally Field-as-Avon opens up some additional possibilities (apart from "oh don't bother teleporting, I'll just fly my coif"). Maybe Blake is less worried about Avon running than standing on the teleport console holding a "Strike" sign...and maybe Avon's greatest fear is that he'll be possessed by the spirit of Gidget. ("They must surf! They must surf!")
