Just a spelling query for my fiction. I've seen variations on some words and names in the B7 universe. I've decided on 'tarial' instead of 'tarriel' or 'tariel' cells, but which is the accepted spelling of the following?
Is it: Zonda, Keezarn, Kerril and Malodar as on Judith's site and in the Sevencycopaedia or: Zondar, Kezarn, Kerrill and Malodaar as I've seen elsewhere on the web and in some zines?
And does it matter?
Thanks, Nico

I keep vacillating back and forth between "tarriel" and "tarial." It's actually kind of starting to bug me that I can't just make up my mind and settle on a spelling. Does anybody have any good reasons for preferring one over the other, so I can talk myself into picking one?

For what it's worth, Trevor Hoyle spelt it 'tarial' in the "Blake's 7: Project Avalon" novel... Dunno if that counts as a good enough reason, but it's the only one I have!

The final decisions on spelling in the Sevencyclopaedia were mainly taken by Judith Proctor, who tended to go with the versions used in the transcripts archived on various websites. By that time I was more or less sick of the whole process of getting the thing finished and said yes to virtually anything. FWIW, I prefer Zondar and Malodaar to their 7cyclo spellings, but go with Judith on Keezarn.
And does it matter?
Probably not. In 'Passable Features' I made sure that 'tarial' was never spelt the same way twice. As for Ker(r)il(l), I think the only thing that matters is getting the 'r's and the 'l's in the right order.
If you want to stay firmly in canon, then you're limited only by those characters whose names were listed in the end credits, and the handful of planets whose names appeared on star charts. Otherwise spell as thou wilt, so long as it sounds right.

Omigawd, you mean you think she's really an Andromedan avatar of either Don Keller (Sand) or Keillor (Gold)?

Come to think of it I should probably go back through my fiction and check this. I'm almost certain I must have spelt them differently at some point.

The Tony Attwood Programme Guide agrees with you over 'tarial'

For those, the Guide agrees with the spellings given on Hermit.
And does it matter?
Probably not. I'm such a bad speller I probably wouldn't even notice.

Huh, you must have a different edition of Attwood's guide. Mine is from 1982, bought 2nd-hand this year, and it has:
Tarriel, Zondar, Keezarn, Kerril and Malodaar.
which, except for tarriel, are the ones I decided to go with already as I prefer the look of them. He must have changed his spelling somewhere along the line, but I'm sticking with my decision.

Mine is the 1994 edition, which is allegedly 'completely revised and updated'. I have to admit I did have my doubts as to how much revision you could do, but apparantly quite a bit. I wonder why the spelllings were changed? (To agree with the Sevencyclopedia?)
