The good news is that my new PAL copy of How Green Was My Valley (Baker/Phillips/Thomas) is a good copy. There are slight little static lines in part 2 but nothing that ruins the watching. My first copy was bad so I returned it. The replacement copy was bad so I returned it. And now this second replacement copy is okay. Whew!
I really do urge all Gareth Thomas fans to buy How Green Was My Valley ( labeled as 1975 mini-series --- or the Stanley Baker/Sian Phillips twinpack) because it really is a wonderful show and Gareth is simply great in it.
However, whenever you get your PAL copy do be sure to check both tapes immediately to make sure that they are okay. There have been several people who have gotten bad tapes.
How Green Was My Valley is available only in PAL currently and many major online UK sources carry it---such as Blackstar, Amazon.co.uk, and Choices Direct. Price should be in the 15 pounds range plus postage.
I am hoping that the NTSC version will be available in 2002. I am planning on buying it because I have no clue how long my multi-standard VCR is going to last.
