I would imagine that those who write soap opera fan fiction try to do what we're trying to do (whatever that may be). There are characters that get dropped from the show that have followings, there are inconsistencies that my colleagues who tape the shows discuss at coffee break, there are characters that were played first by one actor and then another (semi-ObB7).
