The first all-Blake genzine of the new millennium has arrived. "The Way Forward: Crusades of Blake" is 165A4 pages packed with stories and poetry by a variety of fan writers, old and new. Front cover and interior graphics (most of them in colour) by Pat Fenech. Full colour back cover by Diane Holland. Contains the following stories:
"No Good Thing Ever Dies" by Pat Fenech - Acting on instructions from Bran Foster, Ravella seeks to cultivate a Roj Blake who has no memory of her or his past association with the Freedom Party. A pre-TWB story.
"Wind-up Toy" by Jacquelyn Taylor - With the massacre of Foster's people fresh in his mind, Blake is determined to resume his fight for freedom and justice. But one fear haunts him: How can he be sure that his feelings and impulses are his own?
"The Edge of Memory" by Pat Fenech (originally published in Chronicles #64) - Recaptured by the Federation upon his return to the domes, Blake struggles to piece together the disjointed fragments of his shattered memory. A companion piece to "No Good Thing Ever Dies."
"It's About Time" by Jean B. Hubb - With Cygnus Alpha behind him, Blake will soon be hitting Saurian Major. But first he plans a little side trip to see a man about a missing piece of time...
"Kayn's Hands" by Jacquelyn Taylor & "Blake's Heart" by Sondra Sweigman - The kidnapped surgeon does not save Gan, after all. Will Blake carry out his threat, and what consequences will flow from his decision?
"The Choice" by Sondra Sweigman (originally published in Dark Between The Stars #5) - The crew are Servalan's prisoners. Blake is to be executed, but is given the choice of dying by firing squad or torture. The catch is that the death he *doesn't* choose will be inflicted on Avon...
"An Undelivered Letter" by Curtiss Hoffman - Buried deep within the recesses of Federation security files is a letter from Kasabi to her daughter Veron, containing a secret from Roj Blake's past that even he doesn't know.
"Claims of Obligation" by Pat Fenech - The Liberator is drawn to a strange, inhospitable planet by a distress call from a mysterious woman. The message appears to be aimed at Blake--so why does Avon respond to it?
"A Few Minutes More" by Rebecca Ann Brothers (originally published in Down & Unsafe #6)) - A coda to "Countdown", extending that last exchange between Blake and Avon about Anna Grant...
"Fellow Feeling" by Sally Manton - After the events of "Voice From the Past", Blake's deconditioning therapy continues under Orac's supervision. Narrated by Vila, this story focuses on one of the least frequently explored relationships in the series.
"A Proclamation of Principles" by Sondra Sweigman - For all those who think Blake had no vision of what would replace the Federation or who wish he had left behind a convincing argument to justify his revolution--guess what? He did...
"Grey Scale" by Jean B. Hubb - A third season Blake is called to account by rebel associates for executing wounded Federation prisoners.
"Altered Options" by Sondra Sweigman - Suppose it had been Blake on the Malodaar shuttle with Avon... A purely speculative 'what if' story.
"The Ghost of You" by Michael J. Miller - As Blake lies unconscious and possibly dying in the aftermath of Gauda Prime, Avalon tries to put the rebel movement back together--and the Scorpio survivors try to come to terms with their feelings about the rebel leader.
"The Unending Crusade" by Curtiss Hoffman - An unlikely (and at times uneasy) alliance of characters from earlier in the series is brought together by Cally's deathscream to search for Blake. Includes Tyce, Avalon, Franton, Hunda--and the Blake clone.
