When we first see Avon he is wearing what I presume are his own clothes. Perhaps these were brought in by his brother (or maybe Del Grant, and that's when he managed to threaten to kill Avon is they ever met again). The 'bit of paper' may have been in his pocket, notes on some piece of technical data he'd been working on when he last wore that particular set of clothes, shoved in his pocket and forgotten about, and that was overlooked somehow when he went aboard the London. Later on, he found it, and used it to distract himself. From the glimpse you get of it during 'Spacefall', I'd say it was a circuit diagram of some description. That's how I explain it to myself, anyhow. in the context of the episode, it can't have been anything to do with Anna, as I doubt she'd been invented by the writer at that point. I could be wrong, though. Does anyone know if Terry Nation had developed Avon's back story to that degree at this early point in the series?
