It might interesting to see which characters in B7 refere to trust
Blake (in 'that' quote) >>Neebrox and who else?
Although Cally did say a man who trusts can never be wrong, only mistaken, that doesn't mean that she might not have tried to avoid making certain big mistakes.

Does Travis fit more into the h/h mould than Servalan in objective terms? After all he does leave the tower in 'Hostage' open to the locals and does the rescue mentioned in Space City. Servalan would have booby trapped the first, going by her record.

Sorry for the belated response -- RL struck.

I think so -- at least at first, Travis was loyal, brave, devoted to duty, etc., all plus traits. Servalan was out for her own advancement the whole time we saw her, and less than caring about the impact on others the whole way through.
On further thought, I think Travis was an evolving character. He started as a Warrior, and became The Lost Soul. Quotes for the type, since I didn't do it earlier:
"A tormented man filled with angst and passion, the LOST SOUL drifts through life with a heavy heart and a wounded spirit. He is dramatic, intriguing and secretive. This misfit has never adapted to society. A tremendous physical or emotional injury has produced a baffling puzzle of a man."
The LOST SOUL loves fiercely and hates just as passionately. Every wrong done to him is experienced intensely. He suffers the slings and arrows of outrageous misfortune that have pricked his skin."
Under Flaws:
"Brooding -- Brows knitted and face unsmiling, the LOST SOUL sits on the outside, contemplating the unfairness of life. While his mystery and tragedy may intrigue people, his pessimistic view of life drives them away."
"Unforgiving --....The LOST SOUL cannot seem to forget the slights he has suffered. He can rarely forgive himself when he fails. Frustration and guilt fill his life."

Re-reading your "Warrior" excerpts...I agree (only I don't know that "brooding" quite fits T-2 ;-p).

A.k.a. "the Mulder"? (;-p)
I'm shocked that an Avon fan would not have snapped this one up for Avon...ah, I see Avon is pegged as a Bad Boy/Professor. Okay, I admit that is more appropriate, but he certainly seems to suffer intermittent fits of Lost Soulishness (*coughRumours Of Death*cough*)...

Exactly! In fact, Fox Mulder is given as one of the examples for The Lost Soul (Scully is a Librarian), another is Angel (the one from Buffy, not Rockford's ne'er do well friend.<g>)

Hmmm. No, I don't think so. The Lost Soul has a grudge against the world because he was unfairly done against -- outraged innocence, as it were, "nobody loves me so I guess I'll go eat worms." Avon, I think, is fully willing to accept that by attempting his crime and *failing* at it, he asked for what he got, and isn't whining over it.
Even his pursuit of Shrinker -- he's punishing Shrinker for what he did (er, what Avon thinks he did) to Anna, but there's no moral outrage or indignation that this awful thing befell him/his loved one, no attempt to make Shrinker repent or apologize or acknowledge that he had hurt an innocent, no sense he's trying to right the balance of good/evil in the world. It's pure revenge, "you hurt someone who mattered to me" without any attempt to cloak it in anything nobler.

...which you say corresponds with the male "Professor"...further fodder for my (Avon == Scully) hypothesis! (;-p)

Well, not having read the book in question, nor being particularly well-versed in the Psychology of Avon, I hesitate to dispute this, even though I feel inclined to (but I will argue that if delusions of morality are a prerequisite for Lost Soulhood surely Travis is even *less* qualified than Avon--Travis' motivation for revenge (against Blake, the Federation, humanity) being "you hurt *me*").
Come on, some Avon expert out there, support my case. I mean look at me, I'm talkin' about Avon! I'm this close to converting! Don't you want me on your team? Huh? Huh?
