I was asked to give a verbose definition of what teachers college was all about last year. Here's what i came up with, and probably explains why I was in sooo much trouble as well last year. Tongue in cheek comments.
Verbosity indeed.
I think you could use it to describe teachers college...An over indulgence in theoretical and impractical minutae for the purposes of exacting obseqiuous behaviour in overly hormonal adolescants, pocketed by intermittant levels of extreme mania and sudden lugubriousness.
In the mire of the porn debate, but more of an aside, is the writing of such material(sexually based plots) and the display of what has been loosely described as art to back it up(hence the porn references); intended to titilate audiences or is it merely a self indulgent performance? Self-titilation and public gratification in other words. I personally have no great interest in myopic examinations of the sexual relations between the characters. ie. seeing Avon grabbing Blakes butt, or any other form of personal grappling between the characters, is merely an aside to the "real action" for me. Okay, some romantic and relationship details are fine, Tarrant and Ziona for example is entirely normal and acceptable to the plot. my point is I wonder about the erotic adventures of B7 as a valid form of expression. How much of it is the writers personal fantasy and is really all that interesting or relevant? Now the writers of such material will argue that "straight" out SF writing is merely the fantasy of that particular writer anyway and not to everyones taste etc, but I can only presume they both enjoy it...perhaps there's a values judgment there. nathan.
