Peter Borg asked absorbingly:
I wonder, is every tarriel cell linked to every other, or is there some
kind
of networking/routing protocol?
Based on what we see in canon, it probably involves frequent application of laser probes, since nothing else works for five minutes without sticking a screwdriver into it.

Does this count as a thread hijack?
Hmm, but was the target of the laser probe always the tarriel cell, or was it some other inferior technology? Surely Ensor wouldn't be so sloppy as to produce a unit with a short shelf life?
Apart from which, can you imagine Orac's frustration?
"Yes, I'm getting the information now, no! It's gone. Bloody thing, hang on, found a new route. Yup, that's.... no! that one's blown too! Who makes these things anyway?"
Actually, it raises another interesting point; I wonder if tarriel cells were based on light?
Peter.

No. All Threads Are Linked.

You do the best you can with the materials available, which explains a) the batteries in his pacemaker and b) The Harvest of Kairos and Ultraworld

No wonder it's in such a bad mood most of the time--it knows that this is a real possibility.

I wouldn't think so--it would be a waste of energy to have to keep the light on in the computer room all the time (unless AIs actually "see" and need light for the purpose).

PS--thanks to all for the thoughtful contributions to Dome neep.

How does Orac 'see' the universe (does it know what Blake et al 'look like'?

Any way he wants to - through access to all the computers that have access to Tarriel cells, which apparently includes Zen as he has been known to affect & take over the Liberator, he would have access to the input available from those computers from all the sensors attached to the related system.
So he would certainly have some idea of how people "look" and how to tell them apart. The flying orb thingy in "Orac" apparently had a camera on it.
However, this doesn't tell us what his perception of those people is based on that information - a lot of our perception of others is coloured by how they look and move, rather than just their voice or what they say. Ever had your perception of someone that you talk to online blown wide open when you actually meet them?
Peter.
