That's an interesting idea and one that Leah and actually discussed over lunch the other day. The problem with the idea is, as you say, how is it that Britain would have survived *and* survived to the point that they have space travel and have established a galxy-wide Federation? If it was Australia we were talking about, I'd actually find that more feasible.
