I think it's a good idea not to tell Blake his family has been killed as a punishment for his crimes. Not matter how they might have convinced him through brainwashing he'd been misguided, the moment he knew his family-- nonviolent (presumably) civilians-- had been executed because the statedisapproved of his actiivities, he knows he was justified after all. The punishment of innocents can hardly be excused by a person of strong ideas. He'd go right back to fighting-- especially since this time he wouldn't have family to worry about.
