Maybe she was Kendall's secretary and he was so used to her having access to the safe that he simply forgot about it. Or else the prospective buyers of the neutrotope gave her a quick course in lock picking when they were discussing the deal.

Me too! And why Kendall didn't check the neutrotope was in the box before giving it to Blake, or why Blake didn't suggest it. That thing was vital to their planet's future. Charging gallantly off with an empty box was very silly.
