It's strange but, in that scene, I think Avon doesn't realize Blake is unarmed until after he's shot him (not a justification, just an observation). Whether that's a stronger argument for the last scene being some kind of hallucination or nightmare (perhaps Federation psychosurgeon induced), I don't know.
I read Chris Boucher said he had the shootings in slow-mo so it could possibly be regarded as such. He did say he could bring back anyone but Blake if they had the 5th season originally expected.
However, what bothers me even more is the way Avon casually shoots several other people in the base before Tarrant tells him Blake's sold them. As he has every reason to believe this is Blake's current crew, what was he thinking?
Not very sane thoughts IMO. He describes himself as a psychopath earlier (with a coldly amused smile) while listing the types of crimos no longer welcome on GP. Perhaps he was looking for Blake in order to eliminate him, as Blake would have good reason to suspect Avon of betrayal (very few real strikes against the Feds, wiping out Sula's coup just as it was succeeding).

One has the feeling that 'something more' happened on the base - between going in and meeting Blake - that we are not shown. Avon would be prepared to accept Blake masquerading as something else and Tarrant can be a bit 'speak first, engage brain later' at times.
Any ideas?
