Vila says in _Redemption_ I think he would know in his head that it *wasn't* personal - Avon would almost certainly have done the same no matter who else was on the shuttle. But I think Vila would still have trouble not taking it personally, he has after all know Avon quite a while by this point, longer than any of the others on Scorpio.
