I think it can also be tied back to Avon's "I'm a man of my word", since it relies on others trusting in his word. In Warlord, Zukan is the anti-Avon since he doesn't believe in words and won't take anything on trust. Then again, this may be a characteristic of all warlords since <insert crap acting> "words...are only words".
