Maybe there was a very famous Del a couple of centuries past - an explorer or Federation hero, whatever - called Del, and both babies and places have been named after him every since :-)
re the Tarrants, I believe there was no ulterior reason for them, Terry Nation simply had a liking for the name, but it's rather fun (if stretching coincidence, but that's rather an art form in B7) to imagine that there *is* a family connection ...

It stretches coincidence that Dev Tarrant isn't related, given the names Del and Deeta - they must have a family naming tradition. There's probably a Den, Desmond, Delia, Deb, Delilah, Delbert, Dennis, Desdemona, Derek, Dexter... :-)

Actually, I think there are lots of Del Tarrants because a) the Tarrants, like the Wilkses in Gone With the Wind, always marry their cousins, and b) they're sucking up to rich Great-Uncle Delgobert.

Or maybe Only Fools and Horses is the only sitcom on Federation TV.

<flop giggle> I was watching that over Christmas and every time they mentioned Del it made me giggle. Obviously I've been watching too much b7 recently.

I know I'm obsessed with B7 when every time I see a 'Cynos a' car (where a is the small Greek letter alpha -!!!) I think of Cygnus Alpha.

You should have seen my eyes bug out when I was walking along the beach and look up at the wall next to the new promenade and see DELTA emblazoned across the wall. Seems the council saw fit to write the greek alphabet along the length of the shiny new walkway.
