In the Southern Comfort 6.5 editorial you wrote: "Isn't it amazing how Tarrant has been enjoying such an upsurge in popularity of late? There are several Tarrant stories in this issue, much more than the norm." Some fans translated that to mean "Tarrant is taking over fandom." At MediaWest the month after the zine came out, fans would make it a point to stop by our room and say things like "You know, Avon really *is* the most popular character."
We would close our door and giggle until our sides hurt. Such an overreaction to a *few* stories.
The "Panic of '91" is one of my fondest MW memories. Thanks, Annie.
I *never* knew about this! Thank you for telling the story, Carol! This is so cool. I put Tarrant on the map! Wow. And I helped the Americans flood fandom with slash and h/c. Man, I've been busy the last 17 years or so, haven't I?
Leah and I were reminiscing this morning about the "good old days" at MediaWest when the fanzines would literally fly off the table in the first feeding frenzy of the dealer's room opening up. What a rush that was. We missed last year's MW and most of our current fanzines have been agented for us by other people at various conventions, so it's just not the same.

Really Annie, next thing we know you'll be credited with inventing frogs (much to the chagrin of the Scots no doubt !)
Stephen.
