Also, there are those here and in other fan groups who will deny any virtue in Avon's saving the others in Horizon, as an example of one of his better moments his fans enjoy. Blake has a hundred moments of heroism; Avon has only a few here and there-- when they are denied, his fans feel cheated. Some of the more biazarre arguements against Blake may be an attempt to put the show on the other foot.
Personally, I love that moment in Horizon, when Avon realises he doesn't want to fly off alone into the wild blue yonder after all. When he overcomes his self-centred nature and does the 'right thing' as it were, I want to cheer. I'd never knock him for his good points. Being selfless comes very hard to him, after all. I just wish he'd show them more often.

Every time he even tries to do the right thing, all hell breaks loose. He wouldn't have killed Anna if he'd just said, "Oh, that's all water under the bridge," and he wouldn't have killed Blake if he'd a) forgotten all about him or at least pretended to or b) arrived at GP and said, bounty hunter, schmounty hunter, I couldn't care less.

Be fair. Defending the galaxy in Star One was also doing the right thing. Or are you going to blame him for the invasion too?
