Wasn't there a space mission that went up in a million-dollar explosion because someone typed a minus instead of a plus sign?
"A classic confusion between metric and imperial (English) measurement units has been reported as the probable cause of the loss of the $125M Mars Climate Orbiter." http://metrologyforum.tm.agilent.com/news19991020.shtml Lockheed Martin used imperial measurements, Jet Propulsion Labs used metric. Not quite a plus or minus sign, but also pretty close. And way more expensive.
There is a quote along the lines of 'Nothing can be made foolproof because fools are so ingenious' (possibly a Murphy's law derivative)

G'day
I thought i would teleport in and make a question, sorry if its bad, its my first one here.
I am always interested in the first episode of the final TV series , which mirrors the story of dorian grey.
I often wondered if ya mixed in the qualities of the people from the series, what type of person you would get.
For me, im a clone of avon, but in actions im more like vila, i dream of being like blake and solin, etc, and i would luv an orac chip in my head, to round off my strangeness.
anyway, Im wondering if other people see themsleves a a mixed bag of B7 characters qualities.
regards tony

The word is "gestalt", by the by. It's from the German, and I think it arose in English from psychotherapy.

A scary thought.
I think you'd get something a lot like Avon but less able to act on his/her colder inclinations. Because Avon strikes me as already plenty conflicted but suppressing, but I don't think he'd be able to suppress if he were only 1/7th (-ish) of the mix.
Vila would bring more timidity and more cunning. Soolin, a certain practicality. Tarrant would counter Soolin with an idealistic or stupid (take your pick) heroism. Dayna would be bloodthirsty and inquisitive. Bring in Cally for empathy and tactical strengths, Blake for idealism and leadership, Jenna for cool capable attitude, and Gan for warm supportiveness, and you've got...?
a right mess, I'd say. How would you make one person of all that?

I was watching "Rescue" just back the other day.

Someone either very scary or very inept.

I am as completely unlike Avon as it's possible to be, particularly in the field of moody dark good looks. I gabble like Vila in tense situations. When I'm talking about something I believe in passionately I bulldoze through other people like Blake. My Cally-ish concern for how others are feeling usually pulls me back at some point.
I would like to have Servalan's power over vast areas of the known galaxy. I, however, would be a wise and compassionate despot. But if I was going to be anyone, I would want to be Zen, except for the death by goop.

Well, now. I fondly imagine myself to be Avon and I wish I were, especially the bad bits. But basically I'm Vila, without the ability to open doors or be seduced by strange women in spaceships where the air might be running out.
If Avon's already taken then I'm prepared to be Zen instead. Or Orac.
