I always seem to have a least a couple of fandoms going on at any time. Some I loose interest in once the material is no longer available. (I loved B5, but the show got moved to cable, and it's too complex to work on loose ends without knowing what's going on). My big ones right now are Knights of the Dinner Table (a very funny comic book about roleplaying) and Harry Potter.
Joanne (finding the idea of Draco Malfoy being regarded as cool and sexy for any reason somewhat bizarre.
Me, too, on that front. In the first 2 books I found him a sad pathetic boy who couldn't get Daddy's respect, now he's just an annoying little Nazi.
Better not mention a certain snarly Potions Master, though, had I?)
Joanne, (bwahahahaha) you did mention him, and now it shall be my mission to make you one of Snarly Snape's devotees. You will learn and appreciate the sacrifices he makes for the sake of Harry, and for Dumbledore's cause! For that matter, just because he's got the title part, you don't think Harry is really who the books are all about, do you? No, it's all about (cue music) Severus Snape.
Now, seriously, there is a huge amout of unrevealled but somewhat guessable backstory to the HP books. I suppose that, like Blake's 7 having an incompletely realized universe, the Wizard World fascinates fans because we are given a lot of definite information, and even more tantalizing glimpses of what *might* be. Furthermore, Rowling is a mystery writer-- the books are full of clues; you can guess what's to come and work on the backstory based on tiny details that she nearly glosses over in the plot. So there's lots of room for debate about *why* certain information was thrown in-- or left out. Between the incomplete universe and the moral ambiguities, (Is Sirius Black a hero? He bullied an unconscious man who was trying to protect his godson. Is Severus Snape a hero? He's taken the right side, but for all we know,it could be for the 'wrong reasons'. What about Dumbledore? He used an 11 year old boy as a pawn and bait .) it has plenty of fodder for Blake's 7 fans.
