Mmmm, but I still think that Avon realised - just moments too late - that he'd made that ghastly mistake, and any betrayal was the other way (note: while I don't assign guilt for what happened - it *was* a ghastly mistake on both sides - Avon does still bear the central responsibility.) Certainly as Blake breathed that 'oh ...Avon ..." and fell.
That's a part of the reason he goes into that *total* shock, not even noticing when the others are shot around him (when he killed Anna he was distraught, but not blinded to everything around him), then makes that hopeless but wonderfully moving gesture of protecting Blake's body... which he wouldn't have done had he still had any doubt. In practical terms, the gesture means nothing, but it's all he has left to give.
