BLAKE'S XI v BABYLON XI At Outer Galle, February 24, 25, 2262. Babylon XI won by three wickets. Toss: Blake's XI.
This was great!
incorrectly, Blake chose to bat on a pitch which was to display unexpected signs of seismic activity.
<g> Was this in regard to the dice rolling? Did you roll dice on an uneven or unstable surface?
But the rebels made a confident start. Tarrant hit three successive boundaries off Ivanova's opening over and had raised 45 in ten overs with Jenna when he attempted to keep the strike by taking a sharp single off the final ball. Lennier's swift return to Kosh from deep extra cover saw him stranded.
Go Tarrant! I appreciate his effort, even if his reckless nature led to his eventual out.
Zen soon followed, crashing into his own stumps as he attempted to drive Marcus,
What's "crashing into his own stumps"?
and the introduction of Lennier's leg-spin for the following over saw Blake and Gan perish within four balls.
Ouch.
But overconfidence undid him when he trod on his wicket attempting a hook, and gave Lennier his third victim.
Eeeks, and another out I don't understand (I fear I'm losing my cricket knowledge; it needs reinforced!)-- trod on his wicket??
All the while, however, Jenna had been scoring steadily, and almost unnoticed, at the other end.
That's so perfect for her character, the stealth attack style.
This brought Delenn in to join her husband Sheridan,
I love the difference between B7 and B5, the B7 loners and the B5 couples.
but as Dayna hugged him, Martok pronounced that it was a bump ball.

overs later, Sheridan pushed the ball back to her and she dived forward to take a spectacular catch off her own bowling; but Martok announced that he was uncertain as to whether it had carried and signalled for the third umpire, Brunt, to review the vistape.
I'm beginning to wonder about these umpires. If they all show up with free wormhole passes, I think an investigation is in order. ;-)
end. But Sinclair, playing a true captain's innings, reached his half- century under the floodlights.
Though I'm rooting for the Seveners, I have to admit that I like Sinclair and don't regret his success.
Zen and Gan lasted little longer than they did the previous day,
Not a good time for them to go into slumps at the stumps.
That left the Babylonians a target of 157, and they made the
worst possible start when Londo, after weaving his erratic way to the wicket, was bowled second ball by Soolin.
Am I allowed to clap for that? :)
was lbw to its third ball, and gave umpire Dukat an icy look when he turned down her appeal.
The evidence mounts! Did the rebels get any calls in their favor?
But Garibaldi lashed out for a couple of fours and Kosh glided the winning runs.
Oh no!
Asked to comment on the umpiring controversies of the match just completed, he said only that he would be making his own report to the Intergalactic Cricket Council;
Indeed!
This was wonderful, Harriet. You put it together in most entertaining and exciting fashion. Thanks.
Carol
Oh good, it came through at last... I sent it the day before going on holiday, and several digests arrived without it.

I quote Ms Blenkarn's report: "This years' match was being played with new technology, we could spin instead of throwing dice. There was less time lost retrieving the dice from under the table, but spinning too vigorously made for seismic activity on the pitch."
What's "crashing into his own stumps"?
Out hit wicket. (Law 35: The striker is out Hit wicket if, while the ball is in play, his wicket is put down either by the striker's bat or person as described in Law 28 1(a)(ii) and (iii) (Wicket put down) either (i) in the course of any action taken by him in preparing to receive or in receiving a delivery, or (ii) in setting off for his first run immediately after playing, or playing at, the ball, or (iii) if he makes no attempt to play the ball, in setting off for his first run, provided that in the opinion of the umpire this is immediately after he has had the opportunity of playing the ball, or (iv) in lawfully making a second or further stroke for the purpose of guarding the wicket within the provisions of Law 34.3 (Ball lawfully struck more than once). Then there are several more clauses explaining in what circumstances the batsman isn't out.)
Eeeks, and another out I don't understand (I fear I'm losing my cricket knowledge; it needs reinforced!)-- trod on his wicket??
Also out hit wicket (this counts as Avon putting the wicket down with his person).

The ball hit the ground immediately after being struck by the bat, then bounced up again so that Vila could catch it. It often looks like a catch, but it doesn't count if it hit the ground first.
Londo, after weaving his erratic way to the wicket, was bowled second ball by Soolin.
Am I allowed to clap for that? :)
Depends on whether you wish to maintain good relations with the Centauri Republic.
Did the rebels get any calls in their favor?
Well, I suppose most of the ones that were given out. Looking at the scoresheets again, Dayna was reprieved by Gul Dukat in the first innings, but I think that was the only time either Trekker turned down an appeal from the Babylonians. He was probably planning to proposition her at the close of play. Martok turned down five appeals from the rebels, and Dukat one. I was really surprised about Martok; I thought the Klingons would umpire honourably, and it would be Dukat who would cause trouble... Oh my god! I just realised Martok had both his eyes!
STOP PRESS As the teams returned to their ships, an ashen-faced Captain Scarlet refused to comment on rumours that the umpire calling himself "General Martok" was in fact a changeling impostor, even though a large eagle was circling overhead shouting "Ha! Ha! Fooled you all!" Nor was he able to say whether the Intergalactic Cricket Council would overturn the result of the match if Dominion interference were proved.

No rest for the wicket.
Can this be forwarded to the Other List for the collection of summaries of B7?
