Excuse Me, Have You Seen My Plot? by AnnaS
Vila was willing to admit that their luck was not always good.

Avon strolled round to the head of the great Council table, to stand beside Elrond. He spent several seconds contemplating the Ring, which lay upon the table before the Elven Lord, then he looked up, and said, "Why do we have to walk all that way? Why don't you put it in a box and get one of those giant talking eagles to fly over to Mordor and drop it in the volcano for you?"
Oh, I *love* it!
Does anyone else remember a story called 'Dragonrider' in an old zine published by the Vilaworld people? I bought it second-hand a few months ago. I can't remember the author's name, but it has a wizard drawing Vila back in time to open the locks on a dragon's lair for him and some dwarves. Very funny. Avon's solution reminded me of the scene where Vila objects to walking all the way there, which will take weeks. He asks the wizard to use a teleport spell. At first they are all outraged - a quest *needs* a long journey to make it a quest; getting there quickly is cheating - but Vila is stubborn and the wizard gives in. There's another nice scene where Vila shoots some goblins (I think) with his Scorpio blaster, then nearly faints of fear, but gets a lot of respect for his 'magic use' which is so powerful it has obviously almost exhausted him.
