Oh yes ... after everything that's happened, in the end they become nameless, accidental casualties* in the federation's war on Blake. In fact, what it all comes down to is that the fate of every single member of the crew (even Jenna, maybe - depends on why she was running that blockade) was finally linked with Blake, whether he was even there or not (Cally) or they'd ever met the man (Dayna and Soolin).
*That is, of course, if you accept that they all died <g>

I like to think of him as just appreciating all the irony. In the end it's not Blake but Avon who's going to die on a mission driven by sentiment rather than reason, Avon who has to see his friends dead as a result of his actions, and Avon who has to make the final pointless gesture of defiance against the Federation. Oh, and Avon whose heart is broken by the thought that a friend has betrayed him.
