though I find the whole idea of Xena ideologically repellent
Please explain? Perhaps you're taking the 'warrior princess' as a literal description? (someone who has watched more correct me if I'm wrong) Xena is the daughter of a feamle inn-keeper. After war sweepingt hrough the land became too much of a problem, she took up arms and began to put together a band to fight back. As she became more succesful, she fought for merchenary reasons, rather than to protect. After defeat at the hands of an idealist, she was remided of why she'd become a warrior in the first place-- the non-warriors need protection. So, to make amends for being greedy, she wanders around helping anyone who needs her assistance and donates any fees for her work to the peasents. "From each according to their ability; to each according to their need." Where's the ideological repulsion, Neil?

Obviously. Remember, I've never seen so much as an episode, and even if I had a telly that wouldn't help because we can't, or couldn't last I heard, get Channel 5 in the fag end of England (that's a British fag end, not what you Americans might think!).
Still, one of the values of making outrageously presumptuous statements is the way it prompts swift clarification, engendering a positive transfer of information transmission of a corrective nature in the direction of an individual who misguidedly pertains to the notion that deployment of gratuitous polysyllables in a complex predicate statement might make him look less of a complete idiot.
Though I still have reservations about Xena, largely related to the vast expanses of tanned flesh she puts on show. I prefer my amazon heroines covered in chainmail and cuirboilli, and one of those helmets that looks like a perforated bucket turned upside down. And not a trace of an American accent, which I wouldn't be surprised if Xena's got. And definitely no chickadees singing in the background.

You have no telly, but a DVD collection? Okay, now I'm sure at least one of us is crazy.
ObB7. I have this vision of Avon and Vila on night duty, arguing over which vis-play to watch on the main screen. Vila wants to see the Matrix. What does Avon want to see instead?

On this list, isn't everybody?

Why wouldn't Avon want to see The Matrix? Why would Vila want to see it? I would have thought Benny Hill was more Vila's style...
Kathryn Andersen -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Vila: What did I do to deserve this? Avon: How long a list would you like? (Blake's 7: Hostage [B8])

Well actually, I was trying to decide if Avon would want to watch an action movie or not - looking for opinions. I'm simply not sure; or maybe I'm just not sure whether he'd _admit_ to wanting to. Vila, OTOH, seems to me like he'd want to watch every new action/adventure flick that came along, especially if it had explosions - I can see him sitting there glued to the screen with a large soda and a jumbo buttered popcorn; see him acting out Luke's battle with Darth Vader as he describes it to Jenna and Cally.
Avon, though, I dunno. Dark City, maybe? Bladerunner? Or (coincidentally with other thread) I've always thought he'd like Richard III. Macbeth. Othello. I haven't really thought a lot about this, it's just something I was tossing out.

If this were the Other List I'd say that Avon would certainly like Neo's costumes (and probably the contents as well as the wrappers) but it isn't so I won't
I'm pretty sure Orac's favorite movie is DOS Boot.

I dunno, I think Vila might get enough action and explosions in his own life to kind of put him off action flicks. I do seem him watching comedy (probably pretty lowbrow comedy). And dirty movies. Actually, Benny Hill sounds about right, and I'm sure that would drive the rest of them absolutely *nuts*.

Documentaries?

Possibly. But it might look good from a distance, like a miniature black hole ;)

Agreed about the comedy; though I'm determinedly ignoring the Benny Hill references just because, well, Ewwwwww!
And I've thought of something for Avon to watch: Pirates of Silicon Valley.

No telly, true, but I do have this thing called a 'computer' (you might have seen one yourself at some time), which includes a 'monitor' (a big lizard) on which one can view movies thanks to the DVD player in the computer's 'tower' (the bit that tows all the other bits). Stop me if I'm getting too technical.

Last Year At Marienbad. He likes the crazy slapstick humour.

Yeah, yeah. An hour after I sent that one, I noticed the DVD box sitting propped up on my monitor stand. Duh. So I guess I'm the crazy one today. Don't feel too bad, you'll get your turn eventually.
ObB7: Is there a release date for the B7 DVDs, does anyone know?

I'm no good at different English accents, the actress who plays Xena (Lucy Lawless) is Australian. And she's as muscular as she is because she used to work in a goldmine in the .au outback before she became an actress.
(And if you post a followup to this, do what I should have done and send it to the spin list.)
